Description Dennis Nienhüser 2011-03-10 17:01:23 UTC
Version: unspecified (using KDE 4.6.1)
OS: Linux

I have a dual monitor setup with two screens, one panel each. The panel on the primary monitor behaves as expected, while the panel on the secondary monitor has some visual glitches:
- The clock is repainted every few minutes only, i.e. mostly shows a wrong time.
- The hover effect on icons does not work (panel is locked). The hover effect for windows or virtual desktops works, however
- The kopete icon (away indicator) is updated infrequently as well, similar to the clock

When i configure the clock to show seconds as well, it updates correctly.

I'm pretty sure all these problems were not there in 4.6.0. In contrast to 4.6.0, plasma doesn't crash after changing monitor settings, though.

Reproducible: Always

I have a similar problem.

This happens since KDE SC 4.6.x
When placed in a panel the clock does not update as it should, although the shadow does.

The clock placed outside a panel works as expected.
So does the system tray (outside a panel).

The updates become less frequent when kopete is started and the system tray placed inside a panel. Also the system tray does not get updates. Only the shadows. It looks like there are two system trays/clocks stacked but only one set gets updated.

At first I thought the cause is the config upgrade... so I started a test on a fresh account. The behaviour remains the same.

I must add that I have two panels.

One with the system tray and clock and another with a task manager.

System Tray snapshot

This is a snapshot of the system tray. It shows shomething that looks like the shadow being updated correctly, but the "real" content not.

Upgraded to KDE SC 4.8.0.
It does not seem to happen any more.

Surprise. Last night it happened again.
Killing plasma-desktop & kded4 and restarting them seemed to temporarily fix the problem... meaning that the time I used the PC (3-4 hours) it did now show these symptoms any more.

Can confirm this on 4.8.4, Arch packages.

I could observe it if the monitor setup was modified after the startup of plasma. It seems that there are then _2_ panels on the second monitor, one that is updating behind another that is not. In addition to that if you try to press the cashew it won't work properly. I'll try and post a screenshot when it happens again and is visible.

After restarting plasma everything works again.

Hello!

This bug report was filed for KDE Plasma 4, which reached end-of-support status in August 2015. KDE Plasma 5's desktop shell has been almost completely rewritten for better performance and usability, so it is likely that this bug is already resolved in Plasma 5.

Accordingly, we hope you understand why we must close this bug report. If the issue described here is still present in KDE Plasma 5.12 or later, please feel free to open a new ticket in the "plasmashell" product after reading https://community.kde.org/Get_Involved/Bug_Reporting

If you would like to get involved in KDE's bug triaging effort so that future mass bug closes like this are less likely, please read https://community.kde.org/Get_Involved#Bug_Triaging

Thanks for your understanding!
