Version: 2.4.0 (using KDE 4.4.5)
OS: Linux

When Amarok moves from one song to the next in a playlist, a double notification is displayed. This does not occur each time, although it's a fairly recurrent behavior. This happens with both notification systems (OSD and system notifications), although I'm using native OSD that provides notifications not supported by the other.

When it occurs, the second notification appears within half a second after the first, but it can vary up to 1 second.

The first notification (OSD) is not clickable, that is it doesn't disappear when I click on it like, conversely, does the second notification - which acts as expected.

It doesn't occur when resuming playback after a pause, nor during any other action triggering a notification like when changing volume with mouse wheel over system tray icon, or stop playback after current track, etc. Apparently, it happens only at song change.

I started Amarok from Konsole, and am adding the relevant debugging output.

Reproducible: Sometimes

OS: Linux (i686) release 2.6.32-5-686
Compiler: cc

Could this be a duplicate of 263952?
Comment 2 Leonardo La Malfa 2011-02-27 13:51:38 UTC
I don't know, but I don't think so. In that case, the user reports a delay with system notifications that doesn't occur with OSD. In my case, I experience two consecutive notifications, regardless of the notifications chosen (i.e. if I set OSD, then I receive two OSD notifications, and if I chose system notifications then I receive two pop-up notices from the system).

Having said that, however, I know nothing at all about the inner workings of Amarok, hence I don't know if what is behind Bug 263952 is at work here, as well.

I just have the same problem with the latest update of Amarok.

Version : 2.4.0 (using KDE 4.6.2)
OS : Gentoo Linux

First OSD shows the name of the song which is ending.
Second OSD shows the name of the new song playing.

Could you please upgrade to Amarok 2.4.1 and try again?
Comment 5 Aurelien Chartier 2011-05-15 19:35:42 UTC
Just tried it and the same problem is occurring. When using next track or previous track, it is fine (only one OSD).

My build flags for Amarok are the following ones :

[ebuild R ] media-sound/amarok-2.4.1 USE="embedded lastfm mtp player utils -cdda -daap -debug -handbook -ipod (-kdeenablefinal) -mp3tunes -opengl -playdar -semantic-desktop -upnp" LINGUAS="fr -bg -ca -cs -da -de -en_GB -es -et -eu -fi -hu -it -ja -km -nb -nds -nl -pa -pl -pt -pt_BR -ru -sl -sr -sr@latin -sv -th -tr -uk -wa -zh_TW"

Thank you for the feedback.

I found out by chance that if I disable the "Similar Artists" applet I don't get the double notification. But I'm not sure why, or how to fix this permanently while still keeping on using the above-mentioned applet.

Good to know,so we can at least narrow down the culprit

Exactly the same problem:
During track change 2 notifications: 1st is for the current track (that is almost finished) and 1 second later a 2nd notification for the new track.

Maybe helpful for the developers:
This happens on my computer when KDE is using phonon-{vlc,mplayer,gstreamer}, but does not happen when using phonon-xine.

I'm using:
amarok-2.4.3, kde-4.7.0, phonon-4.5.55 and phonon-vlc-0.4.1

Eric: did you try disabling the Similar Artists applet as suggested above?

Disabling the Similar Artists applet does not solve the issue. Also disabling all applets does not help.
This is with phonon-vlc and quitting and restarting Amarok after disabling the applet.
