(*** This bug was imported into bugs.kde.org ***) Package: kdesktop Version: KDE 2.1.1 Severity: wishlist Installed from: Mandrake RPMs Compiler: Not Specified OS: Linux OS/Compiler notes: Not Specified If I drag a file from Konquerer to my desktop the file icon does not appear on my desktop in a predictable location. Sometimes it appears in the lower left corner and sometimes it appears at the end of my row of icons. Both of these locations are incorrect the icon should appear in the exact location on the desktop that I dragged the file to. If I only have 10% of my desktop visible (the rest is under a bunch of open windows) its bothersome to have to close windows and go searching for the (seemingly) random location where my drag-n-drop appears. Regards - Jon (Submitted via bugs.kde.org)
Also note that if you have icons aligned to grid dropping links fron konq onto kdesktop sometimes results in having two icons over eachother (for me the link-icon appeared in the lower left corner hiding parts of another icons, it's not even aligned to the grid). I won't call this a wishlist item but a real bug because it's not sane for any user. If I don't have any aut align/sort turned on then I do NOT want kdesktop to touch my icons, especially not newly created ones. BTW, this is on CVS with kdelibs/base compiled around KDE3.1RC5.

Subject: Re: desktop drag-n-drop random location Thank you for your bug report. The bug that you reported has been identified and has been fixed in the latest development (CVS) version of KDE. The bug report will be closed.
*** Bug has been marked as fixed ***.
This bug seems to be back as of kde 3.2.1. When I drag-and-drop copy files from konqueror to the desktop, they appear in more or less random locations on the desktop instead of exactly where I drop them.
One more observation: the location of dropped files is random only if the icons are thumbnails (file previews are turned on). When the icon is not a thumbnail, it is positioned correctly, in the place it is dropped.
Bug closed. Kdesktop is no more mantained.
