Description lonny 2001-05-28 13:35:36 UTC
(*** This bug was imported into bugs.kde.org ***)

Package: kword
Version: koffice-20010525.tar.bz2 (snap shot) (using KDE 2.1.1 )
Severity: normal
Installed from: Mandrake RPMs
Compiler: gcc-2.96
OS: Linux
OS/Compiler notes: Linux Mandrake 8.0

I compiled a snap shot release of Koffice with no problems however anytime I try to start any of the applications I get the same error:

# ./kword
koffice (lib kofficecore): ERROR: Couldn't find the native MimeType in kword's desktop file. Check your installation !
# ./kspread
koffice (lib kofficecore): ERROR: Couldn't find the native MimeType in kspread's desktop file. Check your installation !

(etc) ..... I uninstalled the RPMS I had which came with the Mandrake Distribution as well as tried installing the RPMS for the newest beta but I get the same messages no matter what package I install or source I compile (with the exception of the original RPM release that came with my distro) Any help is appreciated.

Please run the attached script for better diagnostics.

Did you install koffice into a different prefix than KDE ?

Ah... you used a different prefix for KOffice ?
That's indeed a no-no :)

I said so on http://www.koffice.org/install-source.phtml BTW :

Note: if you used <code>./configure --prefix</code> to install KOffice in a different
location than the rest of KDE you'll need to add this to /etc/kderc :
      [Directories]
      prefixes=/the/prefix/I/used/for/koffice

I'm getting this bug again.
KOffice installed with same prefix as the rest of KDE
I ran the script mentionned on this page, it tells me everything looks okay.

There is no kword.desktop in ~/.kde/share/applnk
The one in /usr/local/kde/share/applnk has a default mimetype listed.

I have run kbuildsycoca with no improvement.
Other KOffice apps (ex: kspread) work fine
KWord runs fine as root.

Any help appreciated.

Oh - and it is koffice-1.2.93
