Description Bruno 2010-12-07 16:51:39 UTC
Version: unspecified (using KDE 4.4.4)
OS: Linux

The following files have been omitted from the package "kwin":

kwin3_ozone.so
kwin_ozone_config.so
(both installed in /usr/lib64/kde4/) and

ozoneclient.desktop
(installed in /usr/share/kde4/apps/kwin/)

I found the "ozone" window decoration (previously available in kwin 4.3.5) to be very presentable and I'd like to see it return to kwin.

Reproducible: Didn't try

Steps to Reproduce:
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Install openSUSE 11.3.
2. Login to kde.
3. Open "System Settings" and head to: Look and Feel | Appearance | Windows and click on the drop-down menu under "Window Decoration".

Actual Results:
"Ozone" is not present.

Expected Results:
"Ozone" is present.

This may only be a cosmetic problem but I do want my kde desktop to look its
best, so I have reported this as a bug.

As a work around, I copied the three missing files from my previous openSUSE 11.2 installation, which ran KDS 4.3.5, to where they should go. I then found "Ozone" under "Window Decoration" and selected it. It is now active on my windows with no problems to report.

"Ozone" was added because of usability worries about the Oxygen decoration which have meanwhile been fixed.
This story was sth. between sad and nasty and i doubt that anyone is currently willing to re-introduce the fork (notably as several other/older decorations have been taken out of the default client package as well)

Therefore i dare to mark it as "wontfix", sorry :-(

Since decorations are plugins, there's however nothing that would prevent you/your distro from forking the oxygen decoration again (copying older binaries should be ok for now, but may not work forever)

Hi Thomas,

Well, all I am really after is that my windows look aestheically pleasing, as I found them to be with Ozone. If the same results could be achieved with the current version of Oxygen, then can we do so? I'm not attached to any particular code base and I don't strongly object to the Oxygen decoration available in (for example) openSUSE 11.3, I just think that the decoration Ozone provides is better. Can it be folded back into Oxygen?

Incidently, I initially filed this as a bug report with openSUSE. It was closed there as a "wontfix" because Ozone was "dropped upstream" between SUSE releases 11.2 and 11.3. What to do?

Thanks for your time,
Bruno

I guess what you want is to check "Outline active window title" in "Fine tuning".
Otherwise contact Hugo (current oxygen maintainer) & Nuno (oxygen designer) for additional features/looks.

Aissigning to oxygen

Hello Bruno,
Please give a shot to oxygen, (from which ozone was forked at the first place); play with options (you can notably type "oxygen-settings" in konsole or krunner, and you'll get tons of them), and report back.
Feel free to
- close the bug if you're happy
(note that current oxygen has many more feature now, than late ozone, notably animated support for window grouping);
- comment on what you're missing

Cheers,

Hugo

Hi Hugo,

OK, I'll give oxygen a try. Do I need the latest version of KDE? Currently I'm using 4.4.4 on SuSE 11.3. I'll be a while reporting back on my findings though, after new year.

Cheers,
Bruno
