Description Madison Kelly 2010-11-21 01:21:19 UTC
Version: unspecified (using KDE 4.5.3)
OS: Linux

KDE: 4.5.3-1.fc14
Kate: kdesdk-4.5.3-3.fc14
OS: Fedora 14 x86_64, updated as of Nov. 20, 2010
GUI: Gnome 2.32.0-2.fc14

When searching for a string (via ctrl+f), the match is highlighted. When you press <esc> to close the search field to continue work, the highlighted text is deleted.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Press <ctrl>+<f> to search for a string.
2. With the match highlighted, press <esc>.
3. Highlighted string will delete.

Actual Results:
searched-for content is deleted

Expected Results:
searched-for content remains

I'm listing it as "major" because you can delete subtle bits without noticing at first, leading often to much wasted time trying to sort out what went wrong in your code.

short ogg vorbis video (from istanbul) showing the bug occurring. After a moment, the text re-appears because I pressed <ctrl>+><z> to undo.

This was duplicated (?) from #257464 which was set to "resolved" without comment. Has this been fixed already? Curious why it was copied. :)

Are you using the ibus input method? This report is probably the same as bug #248558. MAdison, please confirm.
Comment 4 Madison Kelly 2010-11-21 22:51:11 UTC
I do have ibis, actually. Perhaps it would help to mention that I just migrated to Fedora 14 from Ubuntu 10.10 where I did not experience this bug.

I reviewed the other bug and it seems similar but I am not able to confirm that it is a duplicate for a few hours. The actual trigger seems to differ. Also, one reporter mention that they were using Chinese where I use Japanese (anthy).

As an aside, I tried clicking on the close button while searching and got the same delete.

I'll post a follow up shortly and close this as a dupe if appropriate.

Tested and indeed the same happens as in #248558.
