Version: unspecified (using KDE 4.4.95) OS: Linux There are problems with the default focus of the search field in the 'add applets' and 'activities' panel. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: # 'add applets' panel 1.) Click on the toolbox icon of a panel 2.) Click the 'Add Applets' button # 'activities' panel 1.) Click on the toolbox button of the desktop corona 2.) Click on the 'Activities' button Actual Results: # 'add applets' panel The focus is not on the search field by default as it was in KDE 4.4 This leads to a usability issue, as one has to click on the toolbox icon on the right side of the screen, then has to move the mouse to the opposite side of the screen and click on the search input field to be able to search for an applet. By having the search field focussed by default, the usability is increased a lot. # 'activities' panel The search input field for filtering activities is not focussed by default. When having 'focus follows mouse' enabled in KWin and one moves the mouse to another window or the 'activities' panel without even clicking, the focus changes and the cursor starts blinking at the input field, but it is not yet possible to type anything. Only after explicitely clicking at the search input field, typing something is possible.
i agree, i just tested in kde 4.4 and the search field had the focus. I will try to see if i can do a patch for # 'add applets' panel
[Comment from a bug triager] This should probably be merged with bug 216789 now that it was reopened. Regards

Using now this bug as for tracking this issue, as bug#283938 describes this issue only for the Activity panel and bug#216789 only for the Add Applets panel, while the actual problem seems to be the same for both.
And there's another one on which a lot of people already placed their votes. Marking this one now as a dup of the one with all the votes. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of bug 270252 ***
