Description ashari 2001-04-04 21:02:02 UTC
(*** This bug was imported into bugs.kde.org ***)

Package: kcontrol
Version: v2.0 (using KDE 2.1.1 )
Severity: wishlist
Installed from: compiled sources
Compiler: gcc version 2.96 20000731 (Red Hat Linux 7.0)
OS: Linux 2.4.2 i686
OS/Compiler notes:

In kcontrol->look&feel->Window Behavior there are only 3 window placement settings (Smart Cascade Random). We really need Manual (You click your mouse where you want the window) and Center (where all dialogs and windows popup in the center of the screen).

Thanks.

You're welcome to implement it in kwin adding it to kcontrol will then be simple.
If you really need it as you say

Greetings Stephan

I'd love to implement it in kwin.. but I don't have a magic wand or any
virgins to sacrifice (I wouldn't sacrifice them anyways they have better
uses ;-). Anyways I remember manual used to be there at one point but I
don't think that center ever was. This is very important to have as I'm sure
there are many people that don't like their windows poppin up all over the
place like is currently happening.

Thanks
Steven

<aol> me too! </aol>
windows are *always* popping up in the most annoying places possible...
especially under the taskbar- I have my taskbar along the top of the screen,
and windows are always appearing up there...

The problem with windows appearing under top-edge placed taskbar is already fixed. Centered
placement policy is implemented too. I don't think KWin ever had Manual placement policy, and
I'm not sure if it should have it.

Manual placement policy was implemented in KDE 1,
if I remember well.

But it has disappeared in KDE 2.

Just my 0.02
