Description Martin Steigerwald 2010-03-12 11:24:27 UTC
Version: (using KDE 4.4.1)
OS: Linux
Installed from: Debian testing/unstable Packages

When I click on search in the city and weather provider dialog I get no feedback at all initially. Eventually I get an error after some time that the city is not found. Or it just sits here for longer than I like to wait.

Especially in combination with bug #230427 I reported some minutes ago I find this very annoying.

Expected results:

On pressing "Search" a dialog should pop up, that the plasmoid data engine is searching for the city and I should be able to wait or cancel the search.

Hmmm, instead of a new dialog, some indication in the city and provider dialog could be more suitable. Maybe some progress bar where the progress indicator goes left, right, left right as in other progress bars that can't make a estimate on completion status.

I made a startling discovery: when I kill kded4 the applet immediately shows the weather. Maybe there is some kind of race?

Yes, that works for me, too. I know was able to find Nürnberg via wetter.com! Great discovery. Thanks!

There is one big problem with the work-around:

Other parts of KDE do not work as expected anymore: KMail doesn't remember to use my outdated self signed SSL certificates anyway anymore, Konqueror doesn't remember that I am logged in to bugs.kde.org...

I thought once I configured the applet, it might work with kded4 too, thus I logged out and in again to have kded4 started again. Well then the applet cannot connect to wetter.com. It says that it ran into a timeout.

I separated the problem connecting to a weather data provider out to the separate bug #232469 report as this one is about the lack of user feedback regarding connecting to a weather provider.
