Version: 1.13.1 (using 4.4.1 (KDE 4.4.1), Gentoo) Compiler: x86_64-pc-linux-gnu-gcc OS: Linux (x86_64) release 2.6.32-gentoo-r5 Using IMAPS/SSL-Plain authentification method. When starting, kmail asks me the password for my account. If I enter it wrong, kmail fails fetching the mails, but do not ask again for a password. I have to quit and restart it to enter again my password.
I had a similar issue (IMAP/SSL-Plain). I changed my mail password but kmail doesn't alert me that it can't check for new mail. It just does nothing. You even can it the check button and nothing happens(no error or notice). You have to go in the account settings and change password there. (kmail/kontact 4.4.3 on gentoo x86_64)
I use KDE 4.4.4 on openSUSE 11.2 (x86_64) and I just changed my password in IMAP/SMTP server. After that KMail couldn't send e-mails, because SMTP-authentication failed and it didn't ask for a password again. After restarting KMail, IMAP-auth failed too and I got just a notification that it failed - no asking for a new password. One has to go to configuring IMAP-account and re-set the password there (it's remembered in KWallet in my case).

if I'm confident in a good password (while actually I fill the login with a wrong one), I can reply to a listed email (not fetched, of course): I am stuck on waiting a dialog closure like "wait until the message is downloaded" (see my attachment).
Joining this report with the usual metoo BTW: Bug 251416 is a duplicate of this one (dont know how to mark as one).

Thank you for taking the time to file a bug report. KMail2 was released in 2011, and the entire code base went through significant changes. We are currently in the process of porting to Qt5 and KF5. It is unlikely that these bugs are still valid in KMail2. We welcome you to try out KMail 2 with the KDE 4.14 release and give your feedback.
