(*** This bug was imported into bugs.kde.org ***) Package: khtml Version: 3.0 (using KDE 2.1.0 ) Severity: normal Installed from: Red Hat Linux 6.9.2 Compiler: gcc version 2.96 20000731 (Red Hat Linux 7.1 2.96-75) OS: Linux 2.2.17-8smp i686 OS/Compiler notes: I want to add an association for "vncviewer/config". When I go to the Konqueror configuration menu and click on "File Associations" then "Add..." I get a "Create new file type" dialog box. The dialog box has a selection box for "Group:" and a text entry for "Type name:". I see no way of adding a new "Group" (which I assume corresponds to the thing before the "/" in the mime type). Manually creating ~/.kde/share/mimelnk/vncviewer doesn't seem to make a corresponding group appear in that dialog box either. Arguably the mime type "vncviewer/config" is ill chosen but that's what what the server sends. It seems to me that ill-chosen or not KDE should let me configure arbitrary mime types. Even better of course would be if it picked up entries in my ~/.mailcap which it does not seem to right now. (Submitted via bugs.kde.org) (Called from KBugReport dialog)
Waldo, would it be technically possible / sensible to let users add new groups with the current implementation? I think you are the best person to speak to wrt to that, reassigning
I don't see a problem with allowing users to create new groups.
I can confirm that this bug is still present in KDE 3.5.7 (on mandriva 2008.0 AMD64).
