Description Bruce Wolfe 2010-02-22 21:50:41 UTC
Version: (using KDE 4.4.0)
Compiler: GCC version 4.4.1 (Ubuntu 4.4.1-4ubuntu9) Target: x86_64-linux-gnu
OS: Linux
Installed from: Ubuntu Packages

After KDE 4.4.x upgrade all color settings for plasmoids and colors are lost.

Major regression. Please repair promptly.
Those of us having introduced FOSS into workplace settings have great difficulty when regressions like this happen on a major upgrade. Put additional pressure on and sometimes causes us nearly lose our jobs.

Please take care to insure proper testing before release. If there is a major regression then ample promotion *MUST* be made in all distribution channels.

Thank you.

The feature in question ( at least for the System Monitor Plasmoids ) was added in this commit:

------------------------------------------------------------------------
r929812 | pdamsten | 2009-02-22 22:28:06 +1300 (Sun, 22 Feb 2009) | 4 lines

Add advanced config page:
* interface labels; patch by Shantanu Jha
* use background option
* configurable plotter colors
------------------------------------------------------------------------

Which was later stripped out in this commit:

------------------------------------------------------------------------
r1019379 | pdamsten | 2009-09-04 00:20:40 +1200 (Fri, 04 Sep 2009) | 3 lines

Remove advanced pages for cleaner config.
If you want more configure options see:
http://www.kde-look.org/content/show.php/Complex+Plotter?content=111400
------------------------------------------------------------------------

Apparently the solution is downloading and compiling that Plasmoid ( interestingly maintained by the same developer... wth? )... which isn't easy for those with non-Dev systems, and further encourages non-use of the package manager if the distribution doesn't package it.

i'm not totaly sure what this bug report is about.. i suppose the look of the system monitor plasmoid has changed? but i'm not sure, because there was talk about loosing a job etc, so it can't be just a small change in looks.. reassigning to system monitor for now
Comment 3 Dario Andres 2010-02-24 00:46:43 UTC
- May be the theme changed ?
@Bruce: can you confirm you are talking about the SystemMonitor (CPU, hardisk, network meters)
Regards
Comment 4 Petri Damstén 2010-02-24 08:52:20 UTC
@Ben: Complex Plotter is a python plasmoid so no compiling needed. Installing is just couple of mouse clicks: http://userbase.kde.org/Plasma/Installing_Plasmoids
Comment 5 Beat Wolf 2010-02-25 10:43:32 UTC
can somebody explain quickly what the problem is here? because i'm not sure if i should close this bug
Comment 6 Dario Andres 2010-02-26 13:38:40 UTC
Waiting for feedback from the original reporter.
Comment 7 Michael Andritschke 2010-05-17 18:31:35 UTC
I'm not the original reporter, but I think the problem might be that it is no longer possible to alter the color of the plotting graph for the system monitor plasmoids. This was working in 4.3.x. but now there is no option to change the colors in the settings dialog box, so it is a regression bug.
Comment 8 Myriam Schweingruber 2012-05-28 22:26:02 UTC
Closing for lack of feedback.
