All work done thus far is lost. The beta version of Kile 2.1.1 should not be included in Synaptic. Only a stable version. An option should be provided for many of us to install anyone of the stable version. We are unable to compile from the Kile source file either, because there is no "make" file for any version. We can run only ./configure

You can report this to https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/ The crash is probably related to bug 220343 / bug 202885 Regards
You should try out the latest SVN version and see whether that one works better for you. Instructions for doing so can be found here: http://kile.sourceforge.net/developers.php#repository

Install the "make" package which contains the "make" executable. Regards
