Description osavill 2001-03-13 22:16:53 UTC
(*** This bug was imported into bugs.kde.org ***)

Package: kppp
Version: KDE 2.1.0
Severity: normal
Installed from: Mandrake RPMs
Compiler: gcc version 2.96 20000731 (Linux-Mandrake 8.0 2.96-0.40mdk)
OS: Linux
OS/Compiler notes: Not Specified

kppp fails to disconnect if X is either exited normally or crashed out of. In KDE 1 kppp would drop the link when X was exited.

Moreover when X / KDE is restarted there is now no indication that the connection is still alive. Attempts to establish a connection with kppp results in a 'sorry modem is busy' message.

(Submitted via bugs.kde.org)
(Called from KBugReport dialog. Fields KDE Version OS manually changed)

Asked by e-mail to review my outstanding reports:

If X crashes I think it is probably too much to ask that kppp should take down the dial up link with its dying breaths !!

However, when KDE is relaunched I still believe that the modem lights should appear if there is a ppp link up at the time. Not only would this be a very usefull indication to the user but, since there is no dial on demand, it also prevents the user from trying to establish a new connection.

Indeed having used KDE in a commercial setting I think Network Lights should come on if an active eth connection is detected.

I'm having the same problem with Gentoo. I'm using the 3.5.0_rc1 packages. I have the 'Disconnect on X server shutdown' option checked, but when I exit X (thru the KDE Log Out, either 'End Current Session' or 'Turn Off Computer'), kppp stops but it leaves pppd running. If I've done 'End Current Session', then I can check that pppd is still running; if I do 'Turn Off Computer', then the resolve.conf is not restored, and that causes problems when I restart. As far as I can tell, this happens every time.

This report is too old now and I no longer use kppp. Will mark as resolved
