Description Unknown 2010-01-16 21:10:03 UTC
Version: 4.3.90 (using Devel)
OS: Linux
Installed from: Compiled sources

I'm using Kubuntu lucid, all updates installed.

Sometimes after using KRunner to start an application, the last entered command (first letters + autocomplete in grey) remains there frozen.

When pressing Alt-F2, the input field should be cleared and it should be possible to enter new text.
Instead, the last entered command (first letters + autocomplete in grey) is still there and there is also no cursor. When typing text, the extender comes down and shows the good programs, but the input field is not updated graphically.

- Which plugins do you have activated ? (check the KRunner settings)
- Have you tried to disable all of them and reenable one by one to detect the culprit ?
Regards

I have all of them enabled, but disabling them does not unfreeze the line
edit widget, so that makes the cause hard to find

After disabling the plugins you probably need to restart KRunner to unfroze it (restarting KDE or running "kquitapp krunner && sleep 4 && krunner" on Konsole)

Ok, now I disabled all plugins except the Programma's (Dutch for applications or programs) plugin and restarted KRunner by killing it and manually running it. Again after some time the input box was frozen.

Apparently someone else had this, too: http://lists.kde.org/?l=kde-devel&m=126306710002366&w=2
Comment 5 Bruce Miller 2010-02-22 15:17:36 UTC
I have a presumably related problem:
When I enter a command into krunner, the interface often freezes after four characters. The freeze often lasts >30secs; sometimes it is permanent.
Comment 6 Robert Persson 2010-06-17 20:49:42 UTC
I have the same problem as Bruce Miller, with the freezes lasting around 30s. However I have not yet had a permanent freeze.

When I have a freeze and the System Activity Monitor is open, that also freezes for the same length of time.

I have noticed that Nepomuk has been causing me regular graphics slowdowns (https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/kdebase-runtime/+bug/595626). Could this be related?

With the latest betas from the opensuse repository, I haven't experienced this bug in a month or so. Maybe it is fixed?

@Cyrille Dunant: is your libdbus version at1.4.0 ?

There was a bug in libdbus 1.2.x and 1.3.0 that caused lots of crashes and freezes in KRunner (it also affected Dolphin). 1.4.0 should fix that; so it may have fixed this KRunner freeze too.

- Can someone else confirm this ?

Regards

Yes, the dbus packaged with opensuse's "unstable" KDE is the 1.4

Then it is likely to be the same.
Closing as UPSTREAM.
Please reopen if you experience freezes and if you have libdbus 1.3.1 or later (1.4.0)
