"Split" is a useful feature, but very often I want to return to an unsplit view keeping the active side.

The current "Split/Close"-button always closes the active side of a split. So when I want to close the inactive side, I first have to activate the other view and then hit the "Split/Close"-button. However, I often accidentally click on a file instead of the grey area, causing some application to start, which makes the process quite annoying.
