Description Fabio Coatti 2009-10-14 22:24:58 UTC
Version: (using KDE 4.3.2)
Compiler: gcc (Gentoo 4.4.1 p1.0) 4.4.1
OS: Linux
Installed from: Gentoo Packages

let's suppose to start with a dual monitor setup, external VGA-0 and laptop built in lcd LVDS (I'm using radeon driver on a ati 3400 card), with different resolutions. all is working fine. Then turn off the laptop, disconnect the external monitor and start again the laptop.
Immediately after kdm login the screen is OK (that means that windows and mouse are confined to the correct monitor and the pager squares are small, as it should when only laptop screen is connected.) Then krandtray fire up and screens are messed up: basically the two monitor setup is recovered from nowhere and the plasma screen starts to behave (after a short blanking) exactly as two monitor are connected. to recover the correct setup I've to use xrandr from command line:
xrandr --output VGA-0 --off
basically telling that external monitor is off.
The opposite happens when I go back to two monitor setup after turning off the laptop.
plasma behaves exactly as it has only one monitor until I use the following command:
xrandr --output VGA-0 --left-of LVDS

basically it seems that krandtray ignores any detected situation and forces to switch to saved one (and the funny part is that prior to start krandtray all seems to be ok)

Maybe I'm doing something wrong, but I can't figure out what.

Many thanks for any indication and let me know if more informations are needed.

I have the same problem with an Intel X4500HD (G45 chipset)

I don't load Krandrtray at start up but when I start krandrtray without my external VGA monitor, my laptop monitor turn off (which was it's dualscreen comportment).

Thank you for your bug report or feature request.

Unfortunately, we did not have a maintainer for the "krandr" components, which are used to manage displays and monitors in the KDE Workspaces.

The "krandr" components has been superseded by "KScreen" in newer releases of the KDE Workspaces. It is compatible with all versions since 4.11, and is also used with Plasma 5. Please check with your distribution how to update to KScreen.

If this issue or feature request is still applicable to KScreen version 1.0.5 or newer, please add a comment. We will then reassign this ticket to KScreen developers.

If you are already using KScreen to manage displays or monitors, and found a different bug or need a specific feature, please create a new ticket for "KScreen" product in this bugzilla using this link: https://bugs.kde.org/enter_bug.cgi?product=KScreen
