Version: 2.0.2 (using 4.3.2 (KDE 4.3.2), Arch Linux) Compiler: gcc OS: Linux (x86_64) release 2.6.31.4-ARCHMOD When opening Kspread 2.0.2 in Arch linux and KDE 4.3.2, first click on the option "Blank Worksheet" and then click on "Use This Template". After that, no spreadsheet (the cells with rows and columns) appears at all. The same screen options remain and nothing else happens. Kspread must then be closed for there is no way to work with it after this.

I am using the latest version of QT (Version 4.5.3-3). It seems this bug started to occur only after updating to this version of QT.
Attached to this bug report is a screenshot named "Screenshot showing problem".
I had this issue too once, it was fixed after a full recompile of everything. Never have been able to reproduce it afterwards. If you update your version of KOffice I bet it will be fixed.
Thomas, my install of Koffice 2.0.2 was a fresh one. It involves downloading and installing the latest binary via the Arch Linux "pacman" package manager. Additionally, Arch Linux (my Linux distribution) being bleeding edge like it is, the latest version of QT 4.5.3 is running on it. Most Linux distros which are only snapshots and, hence, do not include the latest QT, and most likely won't experience this issue if indeed QT is the culprit. Kspread (2.0.2) may be having this bug with this latest version of QT, because that is when this bug first appeared. I must note that Kword doesn't have he same problem. It works fine.
I just installed the latest koffice (2.0.91) today and this bug still persists. To summarize the steps taken this time to produce this bug: -Open Kspread -Highlight 'Blank Worksheet' and click on "Use this template" -All menus appear but the spreadsheet (cells) itself doesn't appear. -click on "New icon", "Open icon", and then any menu item, and it's impossible...everything is frozen. -Click on upper-right 'x' to exit, and the following bug report appears: Details: kspread PID: 4299 Signal: 11 (Segmentation Fault) Application: KSpread (kdeinit4), signal: Segmentation fault [KCrash Handler] #5 0x00007f52734a574a in KFileWidget::KFileWidget(KUrl const&, QWidget*) () from /usr/lib/libkfile.so.4 #6 0x00007f5257a86a84 in KFileModule::createFileWidget(KUrl const&, QWidget*) () from /usr/lib/kde4/libkfilemodule.so #7 0x00007f527e931216 in KFileDialog::KFileDialog(KUrl const&, QString const&, QWidget*, QWidget*) () from /usr/lib/libkio.so.5 #8 0x00007f5273a19778 in KoMainWindow::slotFileOpen() () from /usr/lib/libkomain.so.6 #9 0x00007f5273a1d722 in KoMainWindow::qt_metacall(QMetaObject::Call, int, void**) () from /usr/lib/libkomain.so.6 #10 0x00007f527f97ed3c in QMetaObject::activate(QObject*, int, int, void**) () from /usr/lib/libQtCore.so.4 #11 0x00007f527d701227 in QAction::triggered(bool) () from /usr/lib/libQtGui.so.4 #12 0x00007f527d70266f in QAction::activate(QAction::ActionEvent) () from /usr/lib/libQtGui.so.4 #13 0x00007f527da69a3a in ?? I just installed KDE 4.3.3 today on Arch Linux. The issue / crash in Kspread still remains.
The crash was also reported at bug 211834 Thanks
Just installed and updated to Koffice 2.1.0 today and the spreadsheet issue (cells not appearing) still remains. Now when I navigate through the menus, it doesn't freeze up nor does a bug report appear. But again, the non-appearance of the spreadsheet itself renders Kspread unusable. I really hope and wish this is fixed soon.

Here is a another similar bug report [same issue] to this one: http://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=216039
I still get the same error on my system, even after a complete recompile. Kspread is still completely unusable on my system too. -Evert Vorster-
We fixed this for either 2.1.1 or 2.2 as far as I know.
(In reply to comment #13) > We fixed this for either 2.1.1 or 2.2 as far as I know. Thomas, as of today (10/01/2010), the koffice website doesnt have either 2.1.1 or 2.2 available, and my distribution (Arch Linux) has 2.1.0 in it's repository. This is the version of koffice / kspread which i have installed on my system, 2.1.0.
I got confirmation this is indeed fixed. Closing. Eugene; you are correct. Those versions are not yet released. 2.1.1 should be out soon, so watch http://koffice.org for updates :)
Thanks Thomas! I look forward to testing out the new version of Koffice 2.1.1 when it is released. As usual, I'll report any bugs which I find, if any exist.
