Description simulation 2009-08-07 15:28:04 UTC
Version: (using KDE 4.3.0)
OS: Linux
Installed from: Ubuntu Packages

Kile (and kate) show errounous signs in long texts using non-latin unicode. It worked fine with KDE 3.x, bug seems to have been introduced in KDE 4.x.

To reproduce, open http://launchpadlibrarian.net/29944263/01.tex with kile (2.1) in KDE4. The file contains only the small cyrillic letter o. in the very last block of text, a »questionmark in a box« () appears. Screenshot: http://launchpadlibrarian.net/29953537/screenshot.png

Other programs (like OpenOffice) don't show this behaviour. When opened and saved again in OpenOffice, Kile can open the file correctly afterwards.

I initially filed the bug here https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/kile/+bug/409581 but it now seems that the bug does affect more distributions than just Kubuntu. it can be reproduced on opensuse 11.1 x86_64, kde 4.3, kile 2.1. There are some more testfiles to find at the launchpad link.
