Version: (using Devel) Compiler: From http://ppa.launchpad.net/kubuntu-ppa/backports/ubuntu jaunty i386 version OS: Linux Installed from: Compiled sources When clicking on the speaker icon in the systray the applet, which I am talking about, appears. In KDE 4.3 RC1, the behaviour is better than in the beta 2. This applet won't always hide when losing focus or when escape is pressed. When it refuses to hide, the fastest way to get rid of it is to click the "Mixer" button and then to close the Mixer window. I have tried to find a reproducable way to show this bug, but was unsuccessful. It tends to happen in clusters.
I was able to reproduce it. I am not sure what have seen a patch for KDE4.4, that might fix the described behaviour: http://websvn.kde.org/?view=rev&sortby=date&revision=980559 I'll observe this a while in the KDE4.4 branch. Lets look at this again in September 2009.
@Christian: bug 203363 is also related, but reported at Plasma side. Thanks
Just for the record. For me it is reproducable (in 4.3.0) as follows. 1. hover the tray icon (the tooltip appears) 2. left-click on the icon (the tooltip disappears and the master slider is shown) 3. left-click again (master slider windows does not hide) So for me it does not work, when the tooltip was shown while clicking the icon.
OK I've been just reoposting a new bug related to this behaviour. I know exactly how to reproduce it ;) My version: KDE 4.3 (Ubuntu 9.04 32-bit) with Kmix version 3.5. Steps to reproduce it: 1) Hover mouse pointer over kmix panel dock icon (speaker icon) and use mouse wheel scroll up or down to change volume during 1 or 2 seconds. 2) After that left-click over kmix panel icon (speaker icon) one time. With this action the kmix applet window with volume level control will appear. 3) Now left-click again over kmix panel icon (speaker icon) one more time. That's all folks. Now the only way to close that applet window is clicking on Mixer button :P Regards, Raine
The way described by Raine "works" for me, too.

Same here with KDE 4.3.2 updated yesterday.
Guys, I've upgrade (Full fresh install) to Karmic beta 64-bit with kde 4.3.2. This procedure (to catch the bug) no longer is working, here is the new procedure to reproduce the bug: 1) Hover mouse pointer over kmix panel dock icon (speaker icon) and use mouse wheel scroll up or down to change volume more than 2 or 3 seconds. 2) After that left-click over kmix panel icon (speaker icon) one time. With this action the kmix applet window with volume level control will appear. 3) Now hover again the mouse pointer inside the kmix applet window and scroll mouse wheel up and down during 2 or 3 seconds. 4) Now left-click again over kmix panel icon (speaker icon) one more time. Can anyone confirm this also on Karmic 32-bit? Raine
The slider still gets stuck open from time to time for us. The bug was still present from svn from a couple of days ago. While it is a minor bug in the grand scheme of things, it is a more in your face kind of bug from the users standpoint. They use kmix often to adjust the volume for frequently visited multimedia sites such as youtube. The work around we are telling users is to use put the mouse pointer on the kmix icon and use the mouse wheel to adjust the volume up and down.

This bug drives me crazy. It does not happen always, but most times when following the description in comment #8. KDE 4.3.4 on Gentoo, amd64.

This seems to be fixed for me in KDE 4.4. RC3. Thanks so much!
Indeed, I can confirm this is fixed (here using 4.5 trunk) Please reopen if you can experience this on KDE SC 4.4.0 or later. Regards
