Description Simon80 2009-03-30 03:20:02 UTC
Version: 3.2.2 (using 4.2.1 (KDE 4.2.1), Kubuntu packages)
Compiler: cc
OS: Linux (x86_64) release 2.6.28-11-generic

When running Amarok or JuK with only the gstreamer backend of phonon installed, I get the popup shown in the attached screenshot at startup, and playback only sometimes works. When playback fails, there are no errors printed to stdout, and no indication of what could be wrong in the UI. Amarok sometimes displays a box saying that there have been too many errors and that it is stopping playback, while JuK seems to do nothing. Both cases are confusing for the user.

With the Xine backend installed, I've had no similar problems so far.

Also note that in systemsettings, the test button work, and yet these sound problems occur nevertheless.

This is occurring on an up to date version of Ubuntu 9.04.
Comment 3 Dimitris Kalamaras 2009-04-29 11:57:53 UTC
The same problem occurs in my Ubuntu 9.04 final. I solved it by installing phonon-backend-xine. Nevertheless, for some reason, Amarok sound volume doesn't obey the settings of gnome-volume-applet...

This problem occurs on Archlinux, I've switched to Xine backend

Is this still valid with KDE SC 4.4.2?
Comment 15 Myriam Schweingruber 2010-05-03 10:11:41 UTC
Closing for lack of feedback. Please only reopen if you can reproduce this with the latest KDE SC 4.4.2/Phonon 4.4.0 or later and a recent gstreamer version.

I have to give more info about the crash. Firts the sound stops when i switch from xine to gstreamer. When i exit and start amarok it crashes. But when i start it for 2nd, 3rd and etc. time the crashes stop and the music is playing normally.

Regards,
Petar

amarok (2.3.2) on KDE Platform 4.5.2 (KDE 4.5.2) using Qt 4.7.0

- What I was doing when the application crashed:
Amarok crashed when changing Phonon backend from Gstreamer to Xine while playing music.

- Unusual behavior I noticed:
Before changing from Gstreamer, the sound stuttered so much that the music was unrecognisable. That was not the case yesterday, after I changed from Xine to Gstreamer in order to seek in FLAC files.

reassigning to the new bugzilla product for better bug tracing of the various backends. Sorry for the noise.
