Version: (using KDE 4.2.1) OS: Linux Installed from: Ubuntu Packages After downloading updates yesterday (3/9/09) and logging out, could not bring kde back. Got message "The application Plasma Workspace ( plasma) crashed and caused the signal 11 (SIGSEGV) Was able to make it work on konsole by removing .kde file in my home directory. Still get the error when logging in via NX. Haven't tried ltsp yet. Everything worked fine prior to last update which was largely kde files. Appears similiar to bug 186441 reported recently.

Thanks. The workaround in 185741 didn't seem to work. In my system, there is no .kde4 directory in my home directory. I used the .kde directory since it was created by the system this morning after I blew the old one away to make it work on the console. The .kde/share/config/systemsettingsrc file did not have any of items mentioned. I removed the geometry and maximumSize and MinimunSize entries in plasma-appletsrc. Tested it logging in from NX. Same crash result. Any other suggestions?
Don't you have the "plasmarc" file to edit too? .. Some distributions are planning on backporting the fix of this crash to their stable 4.2.1 packages as this is an annoying bug.
