Description Julian G 2009-02-11 10:10:29 UTC
Version: (using KDE 4.1.4)
OS: Linux
Installed from: Fedora RPMs

there so many inactive bugs in bugtracker (e.g. about 500 if you just search for kontact) which should be closed. nobody is working on them and bugreporting customers like me simply get confused. it's very hard to see if a bug is already reported if there are lots of bugs which sounds similar but depend on kde 3.4.x or something.

The automatic closing of bugs would be bad, but those bugs should definitely be reviewed. I have proposed something similar two weeks ago on the KDE list but nobody answered:
http://www.nabble.com/Cleaning-up-old-Bugzilla-bugs-td21739567.html

I am willing to take on the responsibility to go through _all_ the open bugs and triage, update, and summarize the comments. All I need is agreement from some authoritative figure that I would alter the bug's title to reflect my summaries, and of course to let the devs know about the meanings of the title alterations. See my post on the Nabble archive that describes my proposal.

i think it would be better to collect the essential comments somewhere within a wiki combined with bug-id and close the bugs afterwars so they don't appear in searches.

if you like i'll attach ids to this bug which might can be closed.

I disagree: the unalterable comments in a bug are better, but they do need to be summarized occasionally.

Please mail either to me in private mail or on the KDE mailing list and I will put priority on triaging/ summarizing those bugs. Full links would make my job easier. Thanks.

Some bugs are valid even though they are more than two years old. If you would like to triage bugs, you should join BugSquad. There is mailing list (bugsquad@k.o), an irc channel (where we do our dirty work: #kde-bugs on freenode), and we announce BugDays on both http://dot.kde.org and individual blogs on planet (you can look at mine ;) ...

I note that somehow this seems to have ended up filed under kontact. If you are interested in triaging just that, I'm sure they'd be happy to have you help.

Come find us on freenode, or email me if you have more random questions.
