Description Xavier Brochard 2009-02-06 16:29:50 UTC
Version: 1.11.0 (using 4.2.00 (KDE 4.2.0), Debian packages)
Compiler: cc
OS: Linux (x86_64) release 2.6.26-1-amd64

The filter criterias drop-down menu let users define their own criteria. But this is not intuitive as the only indicator is the white field.
I suggest to add some words like 'choose or type your own criteria' (yes this is very long but my english is so bad) which will be blanked if user click into the field.

In the oxygen widget style, there is no empty field, it is drawn with the \/ arrow at the right. And also notice that this filed can be one not in the drop-down list.

Basically, what you want is to have something like Opera or FireFox have in the search field. Right?

This could be applied to the KDE drop-down in a lot of places.

In the oxygen widget style, there is no empty field, it is drawn with the \/

at least not in kmail's filter config (see attachment)

And also notice that this field can be one not in the drop-down list.
this wish is about telling that to the user

Basically, what you want is to have something like Opera or FireFox have in the

I use only konqueror...
Ok, I've found screenshots of Firefox, you are talking about the 'Google' grey text in the default search field ? If so, yes.

This could be applied to the KDE drop-down in a lot of places.
Would be a good improvement

The arrow is there !!

Yes, the arrow is there. But with some gray text could be better...
Comment 5 Jaime Torres 2009-02-06 23:15:03 UTC
Yes, some gray test as the quick 'search' widget in kmail 1.11.0
Comment 6 Xavier Brochard 2009-02-06 23:48:05 UTC
I though you were spoking of the black horizontal 'v' with a white cross in it... that is used to blank the field (In reply to comment #4)

Thank you for your feature request. Kmail1 is currently unmaintained so we are closing all wishes. Please feel free to reopen a feature request for Kmail2 if it has not already been implemented.
Thank you for your understanding.
Comment 8 Luigi Toscano 2012-08-19 00:15:42 UTC
Instead of creating a new feature request, please confirm here if the wishlist is still valid for kmail2.
Comment 9 Xavier Brochard 2012-08-19 11:34:57 UTC
I can't confirm until my distributions integrate kmail2, which will not happen before some months. Can't you wait before closing such reports that all major distribs integrate kmail2?
Comment 10 Xavier Brochard 2012-08-21 09:52:25 UTC
After testing last kmail version (from project neon), I confirm this wish:
In filter criterias, the left drop-down menu should contain some gray text (as the quick 'search' widget) to help users understand what to do.

Cool! thanks Laurent. But I think the text is too long for the windows size. Can I suggest "choose or type criteria"?
