Description PJGrefhorst 2009-01-21 08:34:58 UTC
Version: (using Devel)
Compiler: gcc 4.3.2
OS: Linux
Installed from: Compiled sources

The problem is as following. I use both Akregator and Kmail via Kontact. I like to have them both in the system tray to be notified of new mail and new feeds. However, if I have the kmail icon in my systray and Kontact is closed (so no minimized window, only systray icons) I do not get the Kontact window back with Akregator active when I click the Akregator icon.

In fact, the icon does nothing, as when Kmail is active in Kontact, the app does not switch to Akregator if I press the icon in the systray.

It would be convenient if Akregator pops up in any conditions when I click this icon...

Note that it does work correctly when I start Akregator and Kmail seperately instead of from Kontact, but I really like to use Kontact.

still present in kde 4.2.0

I can confirm this bug as well.

Additional detail: If Akregator is the active application within Kontact, clicking on the Akregator systray icon does nothing, but clicking on the KMail systray icon brings Kontact to the front with Akregator still as the active application.

So it seems that the KMail systray icon has the function of bringing Kontact to the front with the last used application. What I would expect is that clicking the systray icon of KMail would bring Kontact to the front with KMail active, while clicking the systray icon of Akregator would bring Kontact to the front with Akregator active, regardless of which application inside Kontact was previously active.

confirming this too - using KDE 4.2.1 in ubuntu jaunty... In KDE 3.5.10 this was working correctly, so I guess it's just some missed part of copy&paste? :) Pretty annoying bug anyway...

4.2.2-r1 (gentoo)

confirming this bug. akregator icon in tray bar does nothing.

also being able to change colour of the number on the logo would be nice.

I'm having what appears to be a very similar problem, using kde 4.4.5. When the Akregator and Kmail icons are both in the system tray the following happens: kmail opens as expected when I click the mail icon. But when I click the akregator icon, kmail opens instead of akregator. In other words, no matter which icon I click, kmail always opens, and the only way to access akregator is through the side panel in the main kontact window. This didn't happen with kde 3.5--i.e., clcking the akregator icon opened akegrator; clicking the mail icon opened kmail.
