Version: (using Devel) Installed from: Compiled sources I am using Kubuntu's KDE 4.2 RC1 packages, although I believe this problem existed in 4.1.3. The problem is this. Whenever I change _any_ setting or combination of settings (the date, the time, the timezone, etc.) and hit apply I get a series of three pop-up messages and the setting change does not stick. The messages are: "Unable to contact time server: Public Time Server (pool.ntp.org).", "Can not set date.", "Error setting new time zone." This happens regardless of whether or not the "Set date and time automatically" is checked. I've had problems with automatic time setting ever since I moved to KDE4.0, but being unable to change any setting is relatively new. Let me know if there's any useful information I can provide. Thanks.
I just upgraded to 4.2.0 and the problem is still there. Again, let me know if there's any useful information I can provide.
Problem is apparently not so trivial. My KDE 4.1.4 worked fine until upgrade to 4.2. Now I can't set automatic date and time option. I immediately get error messages. I found this report on launchpad: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/kdesudo/+bug/312569 I'm using KDE 4.2 (from ubuntu-experimental repository) on Kubuntu Intrepid Ibex (amd64).
Same problem here :S I'm using KDE 4.2.2 from KDEmod, Arch Linux.
Works fine here with 4.8 and 4.9
