Description William Hilton 2008-12-24 02:08:06 UTC
Version: (using KDE 4.1.3)
OS: Linux
Installed from: Ubuntu Packages

Input Actions for khotkeys has been broken since KDE 4.0. According to Michael Jansen, Global Key Shortuts work in trunk. "But nothing else. No conditions and none of the other Trigger types." Yet, all the GUI elements for configuring Conditions, Mouse Gestures, Window Triggers, and Keyboard Input exist in the same state they were in for KDE 3.5. This is confusing to users, who use the GUI, expecting it to do something, and are upset or angry when they are later told, "Oh, none of those features are actually implemented yet."

Since these features will not be available in time for the next release, KDE 4.2, I humbly beg somebody to please remove the GUI elements that configure non-existant features! It's like displaying large posters for some products on your store front, but not actually having any of those products in stock. Users feel like they've been tricked, which hurts KDE community.

Ok, looking at the KDE 4.2 Release Schedule (http://techbase.kde.org/Schedules/KDE4/4.2_Release_Schedule) maybe it's too late past the feature freeze to heavily rework the GUI. If that's the case, I humbly ask a special exception to the String Freeze in order to say somewhere that nothing but basic keyboard shortcuts work at this point.

Input Actions in KDE4.2 have been reworking. And the current configure dialog only shows the options that it can actually configure and use (mouse gestures, and another triggers aren't there in the UI). So, closing :)

Darn! There goes my plan to report KDE 4.2 beta bugs by guessing which ones might be left over from 4.1. These KDE people are too awesome to keep up with! Good job whoever did that.
