Thanks for the bug report. A better backtrace might help (see http://techbase.kde.org/Contribute/Bugsquad/How_to_create_useful_crash_reports), but it sounds like this happened just once and is not reproducible? A kded crash that occurs during updates and that has been reported quite a few times already is bug 165548, maybe it's related/a duplicate.
I agree with Frank, probably there is something on the ubuntu upgrade system which make kded crash... is it done by adept?

Yes, Kubuntu does use Adept (I think they're going to change that in the next release though), but I think it's not related to that. It seems that bug 165548 and duplicates were reported for every major distribution, so the root cause of that bug must be in KDE itself...
