Description JD 2008-11-26 22:07:59 UTC
Version: 1.3.1 (using KDE 4.1.2)
OS: Linux
Installed from: Ubuntu Packages

When I have a page open in an Akregator tab, there are some common tasks that do not appear to be possible. I don't think any of these are "bugs", strictly speaking, just features that would be handy.

1. Reloading the page
This option appears in the right-click menu, but is always grayed out. What conditions would prevent reloading a page?

2. Open in external browser
In my previous version of Akregator (I have just changed from KDE 3.?? to KDE 4.12) a right-click would have an option to open the page in an external browser. This option is no longer present at all for me. The "Article" menu at the top has such an option, but it does not do anything when I try it. There is no error message, just nothing happens.

3. Right-clicking on an image on a page in an Akregator tab does not show an option to save that image. You have to open it in an external Konqueror instance to do so. Of course, the previous bug makes this more difficult.

4. No easy way to view the URL of the page in the tab, e.g. to send it to someone else. You have to open it in an external browser to get a URL bar.

5. The "Ctrl+W" shortcut has no effect. It would randomly stop working in the previous version of Akgregator as well, but would always start working again after restarting the application. Now it does not seem to ever do anything; the alternative, "Ctrl + Esc", continues to work for me.

This is all from a KDE 4.12 install in Ubuntu 8.10. It was a clean install, not an upgrade.

1 - Already fixed
2 - Already fixed (RMB on the tab name/Detach tab)
4 - Already fixed (RMB on the tab name/Copy Link Address)

5 - The shortcut is working but not as expected. I get this error :
«The key sequence 'Ctrl+W' is ambiguous. Use 'Configure Shortcuts'
from the 'Settings' menu to solve the ambiguity.»

3 - Maybe something that won't be fixed (?)

I did edit the title to remove the points that were already fixed.

Christophe,

Thanks for the quick reply!

- Regarding point #1
Does "already fixed" mean that it will start working if I upgrade to 4.13 or to the latest SVN version?

- Regarding the Ctrl-W bug
I got a similar error message myself: "QAction::eventFilter: Ambiguous shortcut overload: Ctrl+W"
However, I cannot find the ambiguity in the list of shortcuts. Only one item has "Ctrl+W" assigned to it.

- Regarding the second half of point 2
The "open in external browser" option from the Article menu does not open the currently-viewed page in an external browser. Rather, it opens whichever link was last selected on the last feed. This is slightly unexpected. Also, if you have a folder selected (such as the "All Feeds" folder that comes by default), nothing at all will happen and no error will be shown.

I don't think KDE 4.1.3 includes these fixes but they are already in 4.2 beta 1.

About the point 2, what I tried :
- Click on an article then on the "Complete Story" link to open it on a tab.
- RMB on the article tab/Detach tab. The tab disappears and is opened in the default browser (the one you choose in SystemSettings/Default Application)

I also tried with RMB (in the articles list)/Open In External Browser and the same option in the Articles menu. It is working as expected for me.

#5 is now fixed.

For the original reporter, please do not report multiple different bugs/wishes on one bug as it makes it harder for developers to handle the requests.

About Ctrl+W issue, perhaps it's a dupe of 193085? Should this bug be closed now?

>Should this bug be closed now?

No, the 3rd point is still valid :

3. Right-clicking on an image on a page in an Akregator tab does not show an
option to save that image. You have to open it in an external Konqueror
instance to do so. Of course, the previous bug makes this more difficult.

Renamed title according to comment #6.
Comment 8 Denis Kurz 2016-09-24 19:40:28 UTC
This bug has only been reported for versions before 4.14, which have been unsupported for at least two years now. Can anyone tell if this bug still present?

If noone confirms this bug for a Framework-based version of akregator (version 5.0 or later, as part of KDE Applications 15.08 or later), it gets closed in about three months.
Comment 9 Denis Kurz 2017-01-07 22:38:45 UTC
Just as announced in my last comment, I close this bug. If you encounter it again in a recent version (at least 5.0 aka 15.08), please open a new one unless it already exists. Thank you for all your input.
