Description Peter 2008-11-25 11:09:05 UTC
Version: 1.3 (using KDE 4.1.2)
OS: Linux
Installed from: Ubuntu Packages

Actions:
- booting Kubuntu
- starting Kontact

Result
- main Kontact window of Kontact and login window BOTH do not have the title bar;
- repositionin is therefore not posssible;
- text entry - password etc. - is not possible
- closing Kontact is ony possible via menu, this then gives SIGSEGV11 message
- this also effects all following started appliations; i.e no title bar, no text entry
- this is an intermittent occurrence which happens 1 in 10 starts
- only solution so far is to reboot

Details
Programma: Kontact (kontact), signaal SIGSEGV

Unfortunately, your backtrace is not helpful. If you are able to reproduce this crash, please read the following page and provide a better backtrace : http://techbase.kde.org/Development/Tutorials/Debugging/How_to_create_useful_crash_reports

Copy/Paste of the answer, please use http://bugs.kde.org/176041 for your next comments :

Since it is intermittent and without any action from my side - exept
booting and  logging in - it is not exactly possible to reproduce this
at will.
Next time I'll try to get you a screendump.

Can I attach your doc to this bug report or does it contain private elements ?

Two things :
- If it also affects Dolphin, that is not a Kontact bug. Do you use compiz ?
- Did you already experience this bug with the Oxygen style ?

Please blackout the username in the login data.

>If it also affects Dolphin, that is not a Kontact bug. Do you use compiz ?

Yes

>Did you already experience this bug with the Oxygen style ?

No. Previously I used plain vanilla 8.04 64bit.
Comment 4 Peter 2008-12-07 11:15:18 UTC
- confirmation : the occurrence is with any application started after boot up
- occurrence is now approx. 1 in 3 boot ups
Comment 5 lucas 2008-12-07 12:09:49 UTC
I do not see any information relating to KWin in this report. Yes you are missing titlebars but it looks to be a general problem with the system and thus is an installation/packaging problem.

If no information on how to reproduce are provided as well as a KWin backtrace I will mark this report as DOWNSTREAM.
Comment 6 lucas 2008-12-07 12:15:02 UTC
Oh, looks like you use Compiz, not a KWin problem at all then. As it was also reassigned from the Kontact team there is nowhere to place this bug there closing.
Comment 7 Peter 2009-02-27 09:17:25 UTC
Since the recent updates this bug is now persistent with Kontact, Konquerer and Dolphin.
I have meanwhile disabled Compiz and removed all components of it.
This bug means I can not efficiently use KDE.
Since it is pestering me for months and now only got worse Ihave given up on it and will do a fresh install of 8.04.
