Description Thomas Kahle 2008-11-23 18:09:13 UTC
Version: (using KDE 4.1.3)
Compiler: GCC 4.3.2
OS: Linux
Installed from: Gentoo Packages

Using the keyboard shortcuts configuration dialogue for "kwin" I configured shortcuts
"Switch one Desktop to the Right" -> Ctrl+Alt+Right
"Switch one Desktop to the Left" -> Ctrl+Alt+Left

This works fine then.

After logging out and restarting KDE the Combinations do not work anymore. However, opening the Configuration again shows that they are still configured.

Reassigning them by choosing "None" first and then assigning the Shortcut again solves the problem.

The hotkeys are somewhat broken in KDE4.1 (bug 160892) , but they were reworked for KDE4.2 (and seems to be fixed for KDE4.1.3+ too) :)

I can confirmed that this bug is still present in 4.1.87.

Please have a look at https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=173140 and see if it is the same problem.

Initial report looks similar, however:
-) I have no changes in .xmodmap applied
-) I have no problems with the Volume keys. Actually they have been working smoothly all the time.
-)Print-Key for screenshot does not work here either.

Any news on this with a current KDE version? Thanks

Seems to be fixed now in 4.2.2. A quick test showed that my original problem is not present anymore. However, for daily work I switched to openbox as a replacement for kwin, so I did not do too many tests. But at least I rebooted once and restarted KDE once.
