Description Maciej Pilichowski 2008-11-18 12:49:30 UTC
Version: (using KDE 4.1.3)
Installed from: SuSE RPMs

please provide automatic survey feature

It is just an idea, not a technical design.

The reason: there is a problem getting reliable feedback from users, what modes they are using, which components, what screen resolution they have, etc.

So, the idea: since konq. is kde web browser and nowadays browsers are key element of the system it would be useful to have automatic survey feature. When the new survey is prepared, user is asked if she/he wants to connect to kde.org to get the survey -- survey is downloaded (set of rules what to check in rc files), and then the form is filled out instead of user. So user is have to only agree for the survey and then click "send". The clear text form is rather for ensuring no personal or classified data are not transferred.

Btw. surveys can be "announced" as RSS feed.

This way it would be possible to get much more reliable data on how many users use classic KMenu vs. Kickoff (just an example). How many users use plasmoids and how much on average. Etc etc.

opensuse team has something similar not for surveys but for support reasons -- not fully automatic though and it saves all data each time.

This idea should be submitted to the CWG: community-wg@kde.org.
It is not strictly related to konqui
