Well the folder view is a great thing I find it usable. But the old desktop with icons is still good as we don't need to scroll it and it didn't overlap widgets ;) . Please give us an option to show desktop files directly on the desktop surface.

That already exists.

Then report it to your distribution. It is already fixed upstream.
