Version: (using Devel) OS: Linux Installed from: Compiled sources Since my last update of kubuntu 8.10 KDE Crash at launch time. When i close the crash handler window all things seems to run correctly. here is the crash handler dump. I have make the dbg packages on to get the maximum of details. If needed I could make more test as you want. I keep my Dell laptop as this to get it possible. @Peter (comment ) your report is a completely different one (already reported)
I've been running into this for a while too. I'm running Ubuntu 8.10 on an AMD x86_64. I have two video cards and three displays: an NVidia GF2MX with a single CRT, and an NVidia GF8600 with two LCD panels off of the DVI ports. I have Xinerama enabled to make the three into one display. Here are the details from the KDE Crash Handler: Application: System Settings (systemsettings), signal SIGSEGV 0x00007f05710496b0 in __nanosleep_nocancel () from /lib/libc.so.6 Thread 1 (Thread 0x7f05739046f0 (LWP 12305)): [KCrash Handler] #5 LegacyRandRConfig::load (this=0x790065004b006e) at /build/buildd/kdebase-workspace-4.1.4/kcontrol/randr/legacyrandrconfig.cpp:67 #6 0x00007f056529008e in KRandRModule::load (this=0x267b360) at /build/buildd/kdebase-workspace-4.1.4/kcontrol/randr/krandrmodule.cpp:106 #7 0x00007f0572cbccbf in KCModule::showEvent (this=0x267b360, ev=0x7fff7b938050) at /build/buildd/kde4libs-4.1.4/kdeui/widgets/kcmodule.cpp:100 #8 0x00007f057183d162 in QWidget::event () from /usr/lib/libQtGui.so.4 #9 0x00007f05717eac3d in QApplicationPrivate::notify_helper () from /usr/lib/libQtGui.so.4 #10 0x00007f05717f29ba in QApplication::notify () from /usr/lib/libQtGui.so.4 #11 0x00007f0572c2613b in KApplication::notify (this=0x7fff7b93a7d0, receiver=0x267b360, event=0x7fff7b938050) at /build/buildd/kde4libs-4.1.4/kdeui/kernel/kapplication.cpp:311 #12 0x00007f05722c8d61 in QCoreApplication::notifyInternal () from /usr/lib/libQtCore.so.4 #13 0x00007f057183ff51 in QWidgetPrivate::show_helper () from /usr/lib/libQtGui.so.4 #14 0x00007f057184049a in QWidget::setVisible () from /usr/lib/libQtGui.so.4 #15 0x00007f057184026e in QWidgetPrivate::showChildren () from /usr/lib/libQtGui.so.4 #16 0x00007f057183fe5f in QWidgetPrivate::show_helper () from /usr/lib/libQtGui.so.4 #17 0x00007f0571840252 in QWidgetPrivate::showChildren () from /usr/lib/libQtGui.so.4 #18 0x00007f057183fe5f in QWidgetPrivate::show_helper () from /usr/lib/libQtGui.so.4 #19 0x00007f057184049a in QWidget::setVisible () from /usr/lib/libQtGui.so.4 #20 0x00007f057184026e in QWidgetPrivate::showChildren () from /usr/lib/libQtGui.so.4 #21 0x00007f057183fe5f in QWidgetPrivate::show_helper () from /usr/lib/libQtGui.so.4 #22 0x00007f0571840252 in QWidgetPrivate::showChildren () from /usr/lib/libQtGui.so.4 #23 0x00007f057183fe5f in QWidgetPrivate::show_helper () from /usr/lib/libQtGui.so.4 #24 0x00007f0571840252 in QWidgetPrivate::showChildren () from /usr/lib/libQtGui.so.4 #25 0x00007f057183fe5f in QWidgetPrivate::show_helper () from /usr/lib/libQtGui.so.4 #26 0x00007f057184049a in QWidget::setVisible () from /usr/lib/libQtGui.so.4 #27 0x00007f057184026e in QWidgetPrivate::showChildren () from /usr/lib/libQtGui.so.4 #28 0x00007f057183fe5f in QWidgetPrivate::show_helper () from /usr/lib/libQtGui.so.4 #29 0x00007f057184049a in QWidget::setVisible () from /usr/lib/libQtGui.so.4 #30 0x00007f0571c04d7c in QDialog::setVisible () from /usr/lib/libQtGui.so.4 #31 0x00007f05718244c5 in QStackedLayout::setCurrentIndex () from /usr/lib/libQtGui.so.4 #32 0x0000000000415643 in MainWindow::selectionChanged (this=0x222d8d0, selected=<value optimized out>) at /build/buildd/kdebase-workspace-4.1.4/systemsettings/mainwindow.cpp:369 #33 0x0000000000415d1d in MainWindow::qt_metacall (this=0x222d8d0, _c=QMetaObject::InvokeMetaMethod, _id=1699449336, _a=0x7fff7b938dd0) at /build/buildd/kdebase-workspace-4.1.4/obj-x86_64-linux-gnu/systemsettings/mainwindow.moc:70 #34 0x00007f05722dd134 in QMetaObject::activate () from /usr/lib/libQtCore.so.4 #35 0x00007f0571c538e5 in QAbstractItemView::activated () from /usr/lib/libQtGui.so.4 #36 0x00007f0571c556c7 in QAbstractItemView::mouseDoubleClickEvent () from /usr/lib/libQtGui.so.4 #37 0x00007f057183d17c in QWidget::event () from /usr/lib/libQtGui.so.4 #38 0x00007f0571c628fd in QAbstractItemView::viewportEvent () from /usr/lib/libQtGui.so.4 #39 0x00007f05722c8038 in QCoreApplicationPrivate::sendThroughObjectEventFilters () from /usr/lib/libQtCore.so.4 #40 0x00007f05717eac0c in QApplicationPrivate::notify_helper () from /usr/lib/libQtGui.so.4 #41 0x00007f05717f322a in QApplication::notify () from /usr/lib/libQtGui.so.4 #42 0x00007f0572c2613b in KApplication::notify (this=0x7fff7b93a7d0, receiver=0x23a6d80, event=0x7fff7b9399a0) at /build/buildd/kde4libs-4.1.4/kdeui/kernel/kapplication.cpp:311 #43 0x00007f05722c8d61 in QCoreApplication::notifyInternal () from /usr/lib/libQtCore.so.4 #44 0x00007f05717f25c8 in QApplicationPrivate::sendMouseEvent () from /usr/lib/libQtGui.so.4 #45 0x00007f0571856be9 in ?? I am having the same 'Fatal error' Signal 11 (SIGSEGV).The problem started,also, after an update. My PC is an HP with amd64 processor Ubuntu 9.04 release. Kernel Linux 2.6.28-11-generic. Yours, Gaetano Arena
Dan, backtrace in comment #3 is bug 192129.
PyrosBrother, the backtrace from the original bug references file names that are no longer in trunk. Could you re-test revision r965732, either current trunk or from 4.2 branch (or wait for KDE 4.2.4 / KDE 4.3.0) to see if the bug is fixed during the module rewrite?
hello Christoph, First of all, thank you for your attention to this point. I will upgrade my Kubuntu and tell you if this point could be closed or not. Best regards Stéphane
PyrosBrother, any news? The crash should be fixed in KDE 4.2.4 and KDE 4.3.0.
Hello Christoph, thank you for taking care to this point. Yes I think you could close it now because it seem that it doesn't occur anymore. Sometimes, plasma or other kde components crash but not in the same way and with the same result as this point mention to. So I think that's not the same problem. Kindest regards. I hope you report the other crashes you get and still enjoy KDE :) Thanks for the feedback, closing as fixed.
