I have noted that when I have comic widget enabled, the KDE takes little more time may be a minute or so to go to the usable desktop. The KDE splash image comes and it remains longer or kind of hangs for a minute at the last step where the large K icon comes up.

When I removed the comic widget the system went into the desktop without waiting that much. May be comic widget is trying to locate something. 

Plasma should load widgets asynchronously except for the important one like the panels and widget on panels.

I can confirm this bug in trunk. Tobias are you investigating this bug? It really annoys me so if you don't have time right now I may try to fix it.

May this be related to bug 170769 ? (loading urls delaying KDE start), look at bug 170769 comment 1
