Description Tim Holy 2008-10-21 12:53:40 UTC
Version: 1.10.1 (using 4.1.2 (KDE 4.1.2), Kubuntu packages)
Compiler: cc
OS: Linux (i686) release 2.6.27-7-generic

I just upgraded to KDE4 via Kubuntu Hardy->Intrepid. I have several mail folders with more than 10000 messages. If the folder's "Thread messages" box is checked, then switching from one message to the next is painfully slow: if I click on the next message (or hit shift-+ to go on to the next unread message), there can be a delay as long as ~1s before the text of the next message is displayed. This is much slower than under KDE3.5.

In contrast, if I turn off "Thread messages," navigating among messages is as fast as ever. The difference is so large that I'm turning off threading for all of my large mail boxes.

In kmail 1.10.90 (kde 4.1.70), with folders with more than 2000 messages and thread messages, it is as fast as unthreaded messages for me.

I can confirm this bug using kmail 1.10.1 from KDE 4.1.2. I'm not quite sure but it seems all of kmail is getting slower when enabling threading in a folder I have ~25000 messages in.

If it's confirm, let's reassign :)

confirmed*

This should be tested with the latest message list, it could make a difference.

Exactly, switching between messages is uncanningly fast now.
