Version: (using Devel) OS: Linux Installed from: Compiled sources When using the mousewheel on plain desktop it cycles trough. This used to be a feature in KDE3 which I never liked, escpecially when you touch the wheel while hovering on desktop accidentally. It would be nice to have an option for enabling / disabling this feature.

This is really annoying on laptops, when you are just moving the mouse pointer in the touchpad and you accidentally touch the right corner (it works as a mouse wheel in many laptops).
I love that feature and don't want to live without it - but i do agree it should be configurable.

Right now on my laptop I'm using only one desktop just because this problem. For me it is preferable to loss the multiple desktop functionality than losing time on searching where on Hearth I ended when my fingers move close to the right of the touchpad. But I think you will agree with me that this is not the right solution...
A workaround in KDE 4.2: 1) right-click on the background 2) Appearance Settings 3) Change Desktop Activity -> Type from Desktop to Folder View If you don't want to see any icons, create an empty directory and point the folder view to that directory.
Two other places this needs to be made configurable: 1) scroll wheel when hovering over tasks on the taskbar 2) scroll wheel when hovering over the pager Just like everyone experiences with the desktop... accidental scroll mousing and zipping through desktops... I also experience the same thing over the taskbar and the pager. As previously mentioned, with a regular mouse it isn't much of a problem but on a sensitive touchpad it is really easy to produce a large number of scroll mouse inputs zipping through many desktops / apps by accident. Perhaps an alternative solution would be some way to tone down the sensitivity of the right-side of the touch pad.
A great fature would be to be able to configure button 6-7 of 7-button mice for desktop or task switching without the need for something like imwheel.
This wishlist has been implemented in trunk, expect it in 4.4
