all I have to do is switch back and forth from things like the collection browser to the playlist 'tab' in this case I just added a proportional bias

The second screenshots illustrates pretty well what is happenening here:

The content of the Playlists browser is painted over the previous content of the Collection browser, overlapping it. 

I have to say I've never seen this before, and I doubt that this is an Amarok bug. I would rather suspect a problem with your graphics driver and/or Qt library.

Have you seen similar issues with other KDE 4 applications?

no I haven't. aside from more frequent crashes and instability in this pre-4.2 snapshot I haven't had any rendering issues in any other apps.

So, what to do with this report? I'd rather close it, since (as pointed out above) I doubt it's an Amarok issue. And since noone can reproduce it, it won't help much to keep it open.

Don't take it personally - I'm sure sooner or later this issue will resolve itself.
