Description Daniel Herring 2008-09-29 01:00:57 UTC
Version: (using KDE 4.1.1)
Installed from: Slackware Packages

A few points on the timezones:

1) "New York" time is really EST/EDT, Chicago is CST/CDT, ... Sometimes regions provide a useful shorthand; but others require the "official" names. When someone gives me zulu time, I don't want to think whether that's London or Africa... In short, the selector should have both types of names.

(this may belong in kdelibs?)

2) The list of time zones should contain another column: offset from GMT/UTC. Possibly also marked whether this zone follows daylight savings or not.

3) The list of zones needs to be sortable. Right now, its permanently sorted by area name, but it would also be useful to sort by region or time offset.

4) [totally unnecessary] KDE3 had an applet which showed day/night on a mini world map. Such a map might be a useful addition to the timezone selector. It could interact with the selection list to help visualize the relationship between the zones.

Please file 4 separate bug reports for your 4 separate issues. Thanks in advance!

INVALID
The problem described is not a bug.

Which is not the case wrt this report. Please be more careful when doing bug triage.

Since these wishes all affect the same widget, I thought they would fit nicely in a single report.
This bug should be closed if/when someone files 4 separate issues and marks this one as their duplicate.

It's the most fitting resolution. The report is invalid because it is not in a valid format.

And you thought wrong. Separate issues have to be fixed separately, so they also need to be tracked separately so they can be closed separately.

Please always file separate bugs for separate issues!

And this affects all bugs, not just this one.

And why would that "someone" not be you? You reported those issues.
