Description Ammaar Limbada 2008-09-24 03:27:08 UTC
Version: (using KDE 4.1.0)
OS: Linux
Installed from: Fedora RPMs

Steps to reproduce:

1) Right-click Task Manager in the bottom panel and got to Task Manager Settings.
2) Select "Only show tasks from the current screen" and click OK
3) Hit Alt-F2 and run any command or just press Esc to close krunner.

krunner (Run Command) will still be shown at the bottom in the Task Manager. If the setting to show tasks from the current screen is disabled, the krunner tasks disappear. When the setting is re-enabled they do not appear again, but if you use krunner again the new krunner tasks will stay in the task manager.

I do not want to see hundreds of krunner tasks in the Task Manager. I use krunner quite regularly.

However, I also need to enable the "Only show tasks from the current screen" setting as I use Compiz-Fusion. If this setting is not enabled, all my windows will be shown on the taskbar on each face of the Compiz "cube". When the setting is enabled, each face is then seen as one screen and so my tasks do not show up on every face of the cube. For now, I am refraining from using multiple faces of the cube and I have disabled the setting in Task Manager. However, I would like to see a fix for this.

Note: This may not be a bug in the Task Manager. It may possibly be a krunner issue, but I felt it was more relevant here.

I think Bug #164852, #170751, # 165709 are the same Issue!
Comment 2 Ammaar Limbada 2008-09-25 00:08:08 UTC
They are not the same. #170751 and #165709 report that after rotating the Compiz cube the "dummy tasks" are no longer visible in the task manager. This is not the case here. The tasks are still visible unless I disable the Task Manager setting.

Also, #164852 mentions something about the systray. The krunner application isn't being launched from the systray.

I have the same issue with the task manager on Gentoo using KDE 4.1.2. I do not use compiz or anything but I use TwinView with two screens and a panel with a task manager on each screen (showing only the tasks on this screen).

KRunner remains in the task manager after using it and gkrellm does the same after it has been started even though it is set to not appear in the task bar (turning "show only tasks from this desktop" on and off again makes it disappear). That's why I think it might be more of a task manager than a KRunner issue.

Same here under 4.1.2 on OpenSUSE with nvidia 177.80 and twinview
