Description Pavel Zheltobryukhov 2008-09-14 16:51:29 UTC
Version: (using KDE 4.1.1)
OS: Linux
Installed from: SuSE RPMs

The camera adding from a list, but no one buttons from 'Test', 'Configure', 'Information' doesn't work. Pressing 'Configure' get an error

'Camera configuraton error'

In 'Details' I got 'Bad parameters'

But this camera work with digikam-0.10 (with some issues, see bug #169641 for details), there it's can be manually defined as 'Canon S5 IS (PTP mode)'
Comment 1 Pavel Zheltobryukhov 2008-11-06 20:09:52 UTC

The same problem exists with Canon A570 IS,

I get the error:

 'Camera configuraton error'

In 'Details' I got 'Bad parameters'

Basically there is no possiblity to use camera at all using KDE tools (doplphin, digikam etc..). Only gtkam let me live with this now.

I hope that will be fixed soon.

Details:

Ubuntu 8.10, with KDE 4.1.2 (the same problem on KDE 4.1.3)

Comment 4 Marcus Meissner 2008-11-20 21:27:36 UTC
does:

gphoto2 --auto-detect

and
gphoto2 -L

work on the commandline?

Comment 6 Marcus Meissner 2008-11-20 21:44:26 UTC
since this works, the other stuff should too :/

gphoto2 --list-config perhaps too.

USB cameras in general are always autodetected and do not need configuration for just downloading stuff. So it should basically always work.

what digikam and kde packages are this? from which repo?
Comment 7 Pavel Zheltobryukhov 2008-11-20 21:58:45 UTC
I have no problem with digikam-0.10beta5, but problem with systemsettings and dolphin still present in my system

I use:

KDE:KDE4:Factory:Desktop
URL: http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/KDE:/KDE4:/Factory:/Desktop/openSUSE_11.0/

KDE:KDE4:Factory:Extra-Apps
URL: http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/KDE:/KDE4:/Factory:/Extra-Apps/openSUSE_11.0/

Comment 8 Marek M. 2008-11-26 09:46:38 UTC
My tests:

1)gphoto2 --auto-detect

marek@magellan:~$ gphoto2 --auto-detect
Model Port
----------------------------------------------------------
Canon PowerShot A570 IS (PTP mode) usb:
Canon PowerShot A570 IS (PTP mode) usb:001,004

this works fine

2)gphoto2 -L

*** Błąd ***
Wystąpił błąd w bibliotece io ('Nie udało się zablokować urządzenia'): Aparat jest już w użyciu.
*** Błąd (-60: 'Nie udało się zablokować urządzenia') ***

it means:

Error:

Occured an error in io library. Locking device it is not possible. Camera already in use...

Comment 9 Marcus Meissner 2008-11-26 10:06:03 UTC
@Marek: in use ... means in use by some program...

like the KDE camera autodetection (wait some seconds for it to go away),
digikam, f-spot or similar tools...
Comment 10 neat 2008-11-27 11:40:25 UTC

----------------------------------------------------------
Canon Digital IXUS 65 (PTP mode) usb:
Canon Digital IXUS 65 (PTP mode) usb:001,004

Okay, I thought that this is the issues but still:

>>The camera adding from a list, but no one buttons from 'Test', 'Configure', >>'Information' doesn't work.

>> Pressing 'Configure' get an error 'Camera configuraton error'

>>In 'Details' I got 'Bad parameters'

What can I do to investigate problem further ?

Any ideas?
Comment 12 Bobby 2008-12-15 16:17:39 UTC
I have a Canon IXUS 75 which also doesn't work. I am currently running KDE 4.2 Beta 1 on openSuse 11 and the problem is that it doesn't even show that a device exists when I plug in the camera. In KDE 3.5 I get a pop-up window imidieatly informing me that a USB device/camera has been detected but in KDE 4 nothing happens.
Comment 13 Marcus Meissner 2008-12-15 17:05:16 UTC
this is a different problem I guess.

opensuse 11.1, kde 4.1: I plugged in a PTP camera ...

No popup.

Oops.

According to Dirk Mueller there might be no code for PTP camera plugging yet, investigating.
Comment 14 Romain Henriet 2008-12-26 16:48:33 UTC
Doesn't work either with my Canon Powershot A590IS (KDE 4.2 beta 2 on Kubuntu 8.10).
Pressing F5 when in the "camera:/" folder in konqueror makes my camera's screen switch off (which means the camera is connected to the computer). But entering the "camera://Canon%20PowerShot%20A590%20IS@usb___005,011/" folder displays a "Canon PowerShot A590 IS" subfolder in which it is impossible to go.
Comment 15 neat 2009-01-16 16:39:12 UTC
With KDE 4.2 rc1 everything is working great with my IXUS 65 on Fedora.
Comment 16 Romain Henriet 2009-01-16 18:01:27 UTC
Things also work with my Canon A590IS on Kubuntu 8.10 (KDE 4.2 RC1). The only remaining problem is that non ascii characters arent't well displayed.
Comment 17 Marcus Meissner 2009-01-17 08:56:34 UTC
hmm, where are those characters displayed (which menu in the ui?) (screenshot would be fine too)
Comment 18 Romain Henriet 2009-01-17 11:18:57 UTC

In the "Configure" and "Information" dialog boxes.
Comment 19 Marcus Meissner 2009-01-19 23:57:12 UTC
the utf8 is displayed raw. hmm
Comment 20 Marek M. 2009-02-02 19:49:54 UTC
With KDE 4.2.00 this works (with Canon A570), anyway I can confirm that in dialog box from Comment #18 there is a problem with UTF characters.
Comment 21 Ben Cooksley 2009-05-12 11:08:37 UTC
Reassigning.
Comment 22 Pavel Zheltobryukhov 2010-01-10 12:06:06 UTC

Yeah, camera:\ protocol finally works for me in Konqueror with KDE 4.4RC2
