Version: (using KDE 4.1.1) OS: Linux Installed from: Gentoo Packages Just open a context menu, open a pull down menu, open a window or whatever while using kwin's gl effects. You'll notice an annoying black rectangle which disturbs the fade-in sequence if you look closely. I've a GeForce 7600 with nVidia's drivers.
Does it occur even when fade is disabled?
It only occurs with fade enabled.
played around a bit more. This disturbance is only there when you have the menu in front of the plasma background. While opening kick off, right click on the desktop, ... If you open another application resize it to a quite small size and use the pull down menu so that it overlaps with the plasma background this does not occur. Thus I assume it is more a plasma then a kwin bug. Perhaps plasma does a superflous/wrong redraw?
I cannot reproduce with my nvidia. It presumably also happens if the background window is KRunner? This is probably nvidia driver bug.
Created attachment 27459 [details] black rectangle bug Here you can see, what I mean. Right click on the plasma background or launching kick-off has the bug while using right click in konqueror fades in nicely although the pop up menu overlaps with plasma background. Krunner fades in nicely, too. I have some other bugs with krunner though. I'll write a bug report for that soon. extract with: 7z e kwin.7z play video with: cpsrecode -i kwin_video3.cps -o - | mplayer -
There is no problem with XRender. Only OpenGL causes this issue.
Same issue in kde 4.1.3 with kubuntu packages and Geforce 8800 and Nvidia's drivers. Is there somebody out there with an ATI or Intel-Card who can try this? You can see the effect best if you don't use a desktop image and just use a plain light gray background and click on the desktop.
