Description Robert Cabane 2008-09-02 22:45:46 UTC
Version: (using KDE 3.5.10)
OS: Linux
Installed from: SuSE RPMs

I just updated my KDE to 3.5.10. Bad idea !
Now korganizer crashes irremediably. I can see my calendar but the 1st action I try to do leads to a crash.

Comment 3 Stefan Endrullis 2008-09-19 09:54:26 UTC
OK, your right. KOrganizer itself crashes when I click on "Next 3 Days" for example. Both are not usable anymore :(

I've searched for a related bug report for korganizer. But there are sooo many open bugs concerning korganizer/kontact and crashes. OMG!

I'm a bit disappointed. Seems there's no developer anymore who cares for KDE 3.5 programs. I don't understand that. Since KDE 3.5 is frozen in months it should become more stable because of only bug fixes but instead it's going to be more unstable with every further release. I receive always the same impression: The KDE 4 developers want us to migrate to KDE 4! But please don't force us until KDE 4 is missing lots of KDE 3 features.
I'm rather willing to migrate to alternatives to KDE programs.

I'm still a KDE 3.5 fan because of the unique configuration options but I regard with horror the current trend of KDE. When years old feature requests (bug #77486, bug #33857) are marked as resolved without implementing it, just to get rid of them, and "stable releases" become much more unstable then then it should be a signal to change something.
My personal conclusion: I'm searching for another organizer now. Sorry for my last comment. Normally such things should not be part of comments to bugs, but I suppose this bug is also going to be marked as fixed even if it's not fixed in reality. :[
Comment 4 Stefan Endrullis 2008-09-19 09:58:27 UTC
Oh, sorry. I wanted to post my last comment to bug #170273. Just ignore it.
Comment 5 Stefan Endrullis 2008-09-19 10:04:47 UTC
I have a question. What's your first action? Do you click on a toolbar button to let korganizer crash?
In my case not all toolbar buttons result in a crash, but only the buttons
- today
- work week
- week
- next 3 days
Comment 6 Allen Winter 2008-10-21 01:40:26 UTC
sorry, I really don't know what to do about this bug.
I can't reproduce and your backtrace isn't very helpful.

It is true that all the kdepim devs are putting what little time we have into KDE4.

Apologies, I really am stumped here.
Comment 7 Stefan Endrullis 2008-10-21 10:29:14 UTC
Maybe the bug has something to do with the use of a "calendar in file on remove machine" (not sure how it's called in English, but in German it's called "Kalender in Datei auf Fremdrechner").

@Robert Cabane
Are you also using such a web calendar?

Since yesterday I'm not personally affected by this bug anymore, because I finally switched to thunderbird lightning after I tried to add an appointment to my calendar and korganizer crashed 10 times before or during adding. It was just impossible to add the appointment.
Comment 8 Will Stephenson 2008-11-27 20:10:54 UTC
What protocol are you using to access the remote calendar? http/webdav/fish?
Comment 9 Stefan Endrullis 2008-11-28 10:20:33 UTC
webdav is managing the the calendar file on my web server, but in KOrganizer I've used a normal http-URL to access the calendar file.

Comment 12 Robert Cabane 2008-12-21 19:29:37 UTC
I dont use http nor webdav to access my calendars (I just update them later with Gcaldaemon).
This bug has NOTHING to do with web calendars.
This is a REPAINT problem.
Just start korganizer, then click onto the "next week" button, and you can work with korganizer as expected.

Comment 13 Uros C. 2008-12-23 15:32:25 UTC
In my case (bug #173225), korganizer still crashes. I think it happens using calendars that are also accessed and edited with Mozilla Thunderbird.

I installed debug packages so I can provide backtrace.

Comment 14 Frank Seidinger 2009-02-03 09:10:45 UTC
I think, that Uros is right with comment #13. I also added appointments and tasks via Thuderbird and run my calender via webdav. When opening korganizer in the one week overview it doesn't matter if you move the mouse over an appointment, klick on it or open the options menu. It leads to a crash with korganizer where the first visible method in the stack trace is paintEvent().
Comment 15 ØysteinG 2009-04-22 11:07:10 UTC
I have the same problem. I have been using Kontact (KDE 3.5.10) with only a local calendar for some time without any problem, but this week I added a remote calendar on a Zimbra server through the calendar in remote file option. After that Kontact crashes whenever I try to reload the Zimbra calendar, or by any other event. Backtrace below:

Lots of changes were made to the code presented in the backtrace.

Please try the new version.
