Version: Unbekannt (using 4.1.1 (KDE 4.1.0 (4.1 >= 20080722)) "release 26.4", KDE:KDE4:Factory:Desktop / openSUSE_11.0) Compiler: gcc OS: Linux (x86_64) release 2.6.25.11-0.1-default When typing Alt-F2 in order to start Krunner, krunner starts. Also Krunner responses to any command typed in like "dolphin" or stuff. It works quite well and is listed in the taskbar. However Krunner doesnt appear on the screen. There is no sign of it. That does neither depend on Kwin's Desktop effects nor on Plasma or anything. Krunner does also not work with other accounts on the lokal machine such as root.
Hello, I also have this problem when using the openSuSE packages. However with a manually compiled KDE, i have never experienced this problem. I think it should be reported to the openSuSE bug tracker. It is possible the problem comes from one of their patches.
Hy, i use kubuntu 8.04 with kde 4.1 and krunner Run command interface 0.1. The problem is that after activating desktop effects, krunner doesn't appear anymore on the screen. Is invisible. The application is there because is listed in the taskbar and when it is selected you can launch apps with it ( like konsole for example), but it isn't shown on the screen. Disabling the desktop effects will not change the state of the krunner. If I however delete the .kde4 folder in my home, the desktop starts with default settings and krunner is shown correctly.
I have the same problem. Config: openSuSE 10.3; ATI X200 using latest fglrx driver. With KDE 4.1, krunner did not display when desktop effects were enabled, but did display OK with desktop effects disabled. With KDE 4.1.1, krunner does not display, regardless of whether desktop effects are on or off.
Hy, well I found out that changing the plasma theme you use would bring the runner back. It seems that it has some trouble here.
@Mike, tried various Plasma themes apart from Oxygen, both with and without desktop effects. No effect; krunner still doesn't display :-(
Having the same problem, krunner does not appear, but is listed in the tasklist. OpenSUSE 10.3, desktop effects turned on, KDE 4.1.1.
try delete the /home/<user>/.kde4/share/config/plasma* and krunnerrc and relog onto kde. This should cause it to return to default config and I think it should fix the issue
That sort of worked, but now all my settings are gone. That is not very acceptable. On a sidenote: Can krunner still do a 'su'? I don't see an option for that.
Well, good question about sudo. I do not see it either, or maybe is just not there. If it's not there, then this should definitely be in the future. Post it as a wish, if no one posted this already, to make it stand out.
Ok, after a reboot krunner is invisible again. So, the bug is still there.
OK, deleting the plasma* and krunnerrc files did fix the problem. Thanks Mike.
It seems that the configuration files for plasma get corrupted after changing some certain themes or desktop effects.Good thing that the desktop is made to generate new default files when needed or else it wouldn't have worked. Glad to help. :)
(at kubuntu 8.04) I delete the files, the krunner appears and after some days is disappears again. Very annoying.
I think there may be more than one scenario here, one involving desktop effects and one involving themes.... perhaps they still both stem from the same bug... My experience was with themes. I'm using kde 4.1.2 on Fedora 9 (kdebase-4.1.2-5.fc9.i386) I'm not using desktop effects at all... I am using multi-monitor although I don't think it's related. I changed my theme a few days ago and subsequently noticed that my run dialogue was invisible but still present and operational. Since it was a few days ago that I changed themes I didn't automatically make the connection. Following the reports of others here I was able to make my krunner visible again and with minimal impact on my config. The only loss is that my theme returns to default as you will see. In my case, the only thing I needed to change is in: [home]/.kde/share/config/plasmarc I removed only the section: [Theme] name=stripshine and then logged in, now krunner is showing again as normal. Interestingly simply changing the theme back to oxygen (default in my case) or any other theme (I tried every one...) using "System Settings" did not resolve the problem for me.
Ok I think I now fully understand the problem in my case (perhaps others are experiencing a different issue?). My bug resides in the theme "stripshine" not in kde itself. The theme stripshine includes a file: [home]/.kde/share/apps/desktoptheme/stripshine/dialogs/krunner.svg it's broken because it links to an image that on my machine doesn't exist: /home/logixoul/Shinestripes/center.png thus the resulting svg is completely transparent... One other important point that threw me is that when changing themes, krunner does not load the new theme (or at least not immediately or shortly thereafter... perhaps it does eventually? I don't know). Therefore when I tried all the themes I had to see if any would fix the problem, none did. Had I changed themes and then reloaded KDE, then it would have.
Forgot to mention that if I delete: [home]/.kde/share/apps/desktoptheme/stripshine/dialogs/krunner.svg Then the theme works nicely again and just uses oxygen for krunner... Also discovered that the desktop widget background SVG is broken too... that explains the "clear" desktop that I thought was intentional...
Ok, this looks very much like a theme issue, not a krunner bug. Charles already pointed to a solution and for more than half a year nobody else reported new issues on that. So I'm closing this for now. Feel free to reopen, if anybody still suffers from this bug when using the default oxygen theme.
