Version: (using KDE 4.1.0) Installed from: Fedora RPMs OS: Linux I have a desktop with no wallpaper (solid blue color). Occasionally, this gets corrupted, and I get black and white blotches on certain rectangular areas of the desktop. There are present in the same position on all virtual desktops (as long as they are not hidden by application windows), and usually stay around quite a while. Chosing Right-click->DesktopSettings makes them disappear.
are you using desktop effects in kwin or compiz?
I'm not using compiz How can I tell whether I am using desktop effects in kwin (... and switch them off, if that is what is doing it...)
does this problem remain? if so, what graphics driver are you using?
All right, it seems i've the similar bug with KDE4.1.3 on my Kububtu Linux. There is 2 monitors (laptop LVDS and VGA LCD monitor) configured via XRandr; and default KDE wallpaper (some blue curly stuff:)). When i trying to move or resize windows (especially from one monitor to another) there may appear some artifacts like window tails and filling desktop with garbage. Can this be fixed or is there some workaround for it ?
Created attachment 28897 [details] Screenshot of buggy desktop Screenshot of my virtual screen was taken with ksnaphot program.
thanks for following up, including the screenshot. ok, that's a graphics driver problem for sure. and probably doesn't depend on kwin composite being active. (you can check if kwin composite is on by right clicking on a window title bar, selecting Configur Window Behavior and check what the Desktop Effects page says.) what graphic card and driver are you using?
All desktop effects are disabled, using kwin as window manager. i've already tried to switch WM to Compiz amd OpenBox but with the same results - destop repaints incorrectly when moving and/or resizing windows. My graphic card is "Intel Corporation Mobile GM965", and driver seems to be "intel" (but i'm not really sure). A little note: when i login into pure OpenBox session (with 2 monitors, and without any Plasma :) but with a lots of other KDE software), i can safely move windows from one monitor to another, and everything works fine.
thanks for following up; yes, then this is a problem with the version of x.org and/or driver you are using.
