Version: (using KDE 4.1.0) Installed from: Fedora RPMs Compiler: gcc 4.3.0 (I think) (rpm package from fedora updates-testing) OS: Linux Canon S45 (non usb mass-storage) camera does not appear in "Devices recently plugged in" plasmoid and there are no dialog box asking what to do with the recently plugged in camera. Using kde from fedora updates-testing: kdebase-4.1.0-1.fc9.1.i386 same thing applies to kde 4.0.5. How reproducible: always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Plug in camera 2. Watch as nothing happens. Actual results: Nothing. Expected results: Dialog box. NOTE: Importing from the camera in digikam _does_ work and solid _does_ see the camera: $ solid-hardware details '/org/freedesktop/Hal/devices/usb_device_4a9_306c_noserial' udi = '/org/freedesktop/Hal/devices/usb_device_4a9_306c_noserial' parent = '/org/freedesktop/Hal/devices/usb_device_1d6b_1_0000_00_06_1' (string) vendor = 'Canon, Inc.' (string) product = 'PowerShot S45' (string)
I don't know why this appears as a "kchart" bug. First kde bug report -- tried to choose "kde"...
same issue with canon a640 through usb i am unable to detect it in Kamera Configuration (System Setting) i just upgraded to kde 4.1 from 3.5.9 where is works just fine. hal & udev detect the camera just fine too.

As this is are non-UMS devices it's more a wishlist item for supporting special devices like these cameras. Even the affected product/component should be probably changed, as it isn't Plasma's job to know all different devices - they should be handled by Solid or even the application (kio-kamera or digikam) itself - they should provide necessary files to show related actions for these devices in the 'Devices recently plugged in..' applet. Could someone classify this and assign it to the correct product/component?
(just saw an old camera i used to have along this post.....long time ago ;-) so let's update, also... canon powershot sx10is does not show in "recently plugged devices" widget kde 4.1.86 (debian sid) , camera's id: 04a9:318d Canon, Inc. digikam 0.10-beta7 recognize it and let me download and upload images from it. kde's system-settings - digital camera recognize it as "ptp generic"
I can report the bug with Canon EOS 1000D (kdemod archlinux (4.1.4)). But I can't even download or upload pictures from/to camera in digikam. Digikam finds the camera, but can't access to it, because the cam can't be nounted. When I try to access to the camera in Dolphin (as root, my user-id can't click "open"), I get the error: "No connection to klauncher. The name org.kde.klauncher was not provided by any .service files" After I added the camera to digikam, I can see it in systemsettings. When trying click on it, i get "can't setting up camera." -> details: "wrong parameters". The cam is recognized as "PTP generic" (04a9:317b). I had to ad this to /etc/udev/rules.d/54-gphoto.rules. With kdemod3 (3.5.10) I had no problems after I added it to 54-gphoto.rules.
partially fix for version 4.1.96 i get a popup from the "Device Notifier" widget that shows the camera and when i click it... digikam opens with import from camera dialog. which is great BUT i would like to be able to choose what will be the default action when i click it. or right click it to open in dolphin ? great improvement (you guys are the best!) :-)
The original bug seems to be fixed in kde 4.2 so I guess this bug should be closed. Thanks!
Marking fixed then. :)
