Description Carsten Schlipf 2008-08-06 12:53:50 UTC
Version: (using KDE 4.1.0)
Installed from: Ubuntu Packages

Plasma applets that require HTTP connections (comic strip, KDE twitter, News Ticker,...) do neither honor the KDE proxy settings nor the http_proxy or https_proxy environment variables.

I have not found a way to make Plasma applet aware of a web proxy, yet.
Comment 1 Matthias Fuchs 2008-09-02 12:17:50 UTC
That's because they use QHttp instead of KIO.
For the comic plasmoid this has been resolved in Trunk, though I'm not sure if this is going to be backported to KDE 4.1.X.

Comment 2 Daniel Eckl 2009-01-15 12:39:17 UTC
I can confirm that the compic widget works with proxy. But for example the RSS widget diesn't, it just doesn't load the feed without any error message visible.

So this bug seems not to be resolved for me, just partly.

Is it a good idea to reopen this again or is there another ticket already active?

Sorry, forgot one vital info: I tested it with KDE 4.2 RC1
Comment 4 Aaron J. Seigo 2009-01-15 19:16:49 UTC
Daniel: you'd want to file a new ticket against libsyndicate in kdepimlibs (kdepimlibs is the product to use in the drop down of choices). the RSS engine uses libsyndicate to do all the network and parsing activities and doesn't actually do any network activity itself.

Comment 7 Carsten Schlipf 2009-01-28 09:03:11 UTC
I ca n't reproduce this anymore with KDE 4.2. Same applies to the RSS Widget.

Thank you very much for the best desktop ever!

I am having the same problem with the webbrowser applet and all the OS X dashboard widget.
Proxy settings are ignored.

PS: I'm using 4.2 from SuSE RPMS

Hello! Plasma 4 was replaced by Plasma 5 four years ago by the KDE community. In that time we have made great strides in stability and functionality. We are closing all Plasma 4 bugs as most of them are no longer applicable to the new frameworks Plasma 5 is built upon. If you could, please re-test with the latest version of Plasma 5, and submit a new bug to "plasmashell" if you continue to have an issue. Thank you!
