Description Luke-Jr 2008-08-04 07:34:03 UTC
Version: (using KDE 4.1.0)
Installed from: Gentoo Packages
Compiler: gcc (GCC) 4.1.2 20070214 ( (gdc 0.24, using dmd 1.020)) (Gentoo 4.1.2 p1.1)
 CFLAGS="-O2 -pipe -march=k8"
OS: Linux

x11-drivers/xf86-video-ati-6.6.3
x11-base/xorg-server-1.3.0.0-r6

Any combination of advanced options is still broken.

Please provide more information than just "it doesn't work".

OpenGL, KeepUp2Date, SharedMem, Bilinear, Direct, VSync

Also, they all have System Settings open to the page, with the timer counting
down from 10 for new settings, *and* the K-Menu just opened.

OpenGL, KeepUp2Date, Fallback, Bilinear, Direct, VSync

In all cases, Fallback mode breaks the X server: after reverting, all desktop
effects settings are ignored until the X server is restarted.

I also took:

OpenGL-KeepUp2Date-Fallback-Bilinear-NotDirect-VSync.png
OpenGL-KeepUp2Date-SharedMem-Bilinear-NotDirect-VSync.png
WithoutImprovedWinMgmt.png
WithoutShadows.png
WithoutVariousAnim.png

Let me know if you need anything else.

According to the X log, your X crashed, so this is X bug.
Comment 13 Luke-Jr 2008-08-08 23:13:14 UTC
X itself survived, so I'm guessing the "crash" was when Fallback mode broke something that the X server couldn't recover from. Up until then (SharedMem and TextureFromPixmap), the server hadn't crashed.

As this seems to be an X bug I set to Upstream.
