I want to be able set the colour of the panel. Yes I though it is themable, but I do not want to wait for someone writing a theme in colour of my choice. It would be great, if I could set it directly.

there is a theme that'll use kde colours, which are configurable, or something... I think it was Aya?

Yes, there are different themes that use system colours. Plasma devs are very strict in not making something configureable that is being done by the theme.
