Description Jonas Thorell 2008-07-16 17:17:24 UTC
Version:            (using KDE 4.0.98)
Installed from:    SuSE RPMs

I'm not sure if I should classify this as a bug or a wishlist...it's a change in behavior from 3.5.x Kontact at any rate.

The thing is, I use Kontact instead of the individual apps all the time (i.e. Kmail, Adressbook, Kjots) but with one exception: Akregator. I prefer to run that stand-alone which is easy enough to do.

However, that means I would like to be able to remove akregator from Kontacts sidebar. I knew you could do that in the 3.5.x version, although can't remember where you changed that option. In the 4.1 version, however, I can't find the option at all. Maybe I'm just stupid and can't find it, but if it isn't there I would really want that option back.

Go into Settings->Configure Kontact menu

Look in the tree list on the left hand side, you should see "Feeds".
Deselect the checkbox immediately to the left of Feeds.

click ok

Should, but isn't. All I have is Kontact on the top (where I can only select which component to startup with), followed by:

*Summary
*Ktimetracker
*Mail
*Contacts
*Calendar

Summary, mail, and contacts have suboptions but none that have anything to do with feeds.

strange.

in the meantime, you can hand-edit your ~/.kde/share/config/kontactrc file.

Steps:
1) quit kontact
2) edit ~/.kde/share/config/kontactrc
  in the [Plugins] section, change the value of
    kontact_akregatorpluginEnabled to false,
  or, if necessary, add the line
   kontact_akregatorpluginEnabled=false
3) save the changes
4) start kontact

Great! Thanks, that worked a treat but does make me wonder why the option wasn't where it was supposed to be...

I don't think this bugreport is invalid. It still isn't possible to remove/exclude some applications like e.g. kjots part from kontact, it is not listen in the kontact settings.

re-opening. this bug is valid and a partial fix is already in place for KDE 4.1.1 and KDE 4.2

SVN commit 840861 by winterz:

use Kevin's new X-KDE-PluginInfo-AllowEmptySettings to make sure
KNotes, KJots and KTimeTracker plugins show up as (de)selectable
in the Kontact configuration dialog.

also make sure they are shown in our consistent order by changing
the KTimeTracker weight.

Unfortunately, we still don't have the full configs for these
apps available, but at least they are (de)selectable.
